Job Description

We acknowledge all Nations who live, work, and play, help us steward this land, and honour and celebrate this place.The OpportunityThe Recruitment Specialist is responsible for a portfolio within the Recruitment team. The incumbent works closely with their portfolio hiring managers to ensure a strong understanding of department needs, position expectations, core competencies and overall fit within the team. In partnership with the hiring managers, the incumbent will use competency-based hiring techniques to ensure success in identifying top talent for Banff Centre. This role will also be completing a variety of administrative duties, as well as assist the Director, Human Resources in supporting the recruitment of talent and maintaining Banff Centre’s employment brand.Roles and ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Director, Human Resources, below are some of the key accountabilities:

  • Coordinate timely posting and monitoring of requisitions for vacant positions under the general direction of the Director, Human Resources.
  • Focus on hourly and salaried support staff and Ranges 1, 2, and 3 Management/PSP positions within a portfolio and other files as assigned. In the absence of the Director, Human Resources the incumbent will cover the complete recruiting requirements for the Centre.
  • Initiate and drive all aspects of the recruitment process including conducting intake meetings with the hiring managers to understand the responsibilities of the open position, the team and the candidate profile required in order to provide candidates with sound information on the position opportunities.
  • Prepare job postings and advertisements, endeavouring to capture the essence of the position ensuring the description will attract significant response while remaining cost effective.
  • Research and advertise to appropriate candidate market sectors including universities, organizations, associations and employment programs to help source candidates.
  • Responsible for all applicant tracking workflow; screening resumes, presenting candidates to hiring managers, conducting pre-screening interviews, coordinating interview committees, scheduling interviews and assessments, participating in interviews, regretting unsuccessful candidates, presenting and negotiating offers and conducting background and reference checks. Additional duties may include: travel arrangements, facilitating any testing that may be required.
  • Prepare interview questions based on the core competencies identified for the position, tailoring questions as required to reflect the specific needs of the hiring department.
  • Participate in or conduct interviews and consult with the hiring manager to ensure the best candidate is selected.
  • Provides appropriate, relevant and timely feedback to candidates and clients
  • Complete administrative responsibilities related to talent acquisition (departmental reports, employment contracts, orientation requests, etc.)
  • Provide support to the managers and supervisors by ensuring correct interpretation of and compliance with the Centre’s recruiting and employment policies as well as the department’s staffing plan under the general direction of the Director, Human Resources.
  • Be aware of compliance obligations specified in the Alberta Human Rights Act and Banff Centre’s Collective Bargaining Agreement and ensure that the Centre’s compliance regarding hiring and testing practices meet these requirements.
  • Actively promote positions and source candidates to build pipelines for difficult to fill positions.
  • Attend job fairs and local off-site recruitment fairs
  • Maintain all information related to requisitions and candidate records in Taleo.
  • Maintain up to date and accurate Taleo inputting for timely report generation.
  • Assist with the collecting and analyzing of statistical information in the areas of recruiting.
  • Identify shortages and surpluses of skilled candidates and advise managers accordingly based on a thorough knowledge of current conditions within assigned divisions.
  • Support the Director, Human Resources hiring managers and individuals in completing documents related to the foreign worker application process.
  • Provide Reception coverage and administrative support to the Human Resources team as required.
  • Maintain the filing on behalf of the recruitment department.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
  • 3+ years of in-house or agency recruitment experience
  • Diploma/Degree in Human Resources or related area
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external clients and candidates
  • Ability to multi-task to effectively project manage multiple talent acquisition competitions with competing timelines
  • Ability to work in fast paced, team environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Creative in sourcing candidates for highly specialized positions
  • Applicant Tracking System and/or database experience. Taleo is preferred
  • Experience with behavioural and competency based interviewing
  • Proficient with the Microsoft suite of products (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Familiar with LinkedIn, Indeed, and social media sites for recruitment
  • Experience in a unionized environment is an asset
  • Ability to speak and read French is an asset
Special Requirements
  • This position will be working remotely until Banff Centre lifts its internal remote work restrictions.
Employment Terms and Benefits
  • This is a salaried support staff position, subject to a 6-month probation period.
  • The annual salary for this position is $52,884.00, based on working 37.5 hours per week.
  • The successful candidate will have access to a range of benefits through Alberta Blue Cross and will be eligible to participate in our defined benefit pension plan.
