Job Description

The Bow Valley Regional Transit Services Commission (BVRTSC) is looking to add two (2) Transit Support Supervisor/Trainers to our team. We provide public transit to both visitors and residents looking to enjoy the Bow Valley without the use of a private vehicle. Our team members make an impact in our communities every day. Reporting to the Operations Supervisor and Operations Manager, you will train, supervise, and support Roam’s Transit Operators throughout the Bow Valley and ensure passenger needs are met by providing leadership and support for our team.Job Profile:Position Summary:These two positions will overlap each other to provide 7 days per week coverage, with two primary roles:

  • MELT (Mandatory Entry Level Training) Qualified Trainer. You will work with our current MELT training team to assist with driver training and preparation of new hires training from a Class 5 to a Class 2 Provincial license.
  • Operational on-road support for drivers and ambassadors. These positions (when not training) will be providing on-road support and guidance to our front-line team. A requirement of the position will be to have approximately 75% of the shift being out on the road, moving throughout our communities providing support to drivers and riding on buses to provide similar support.
  • Hours of work will vary depending on the needs of the organization; shifts will primarily range from mid-morning to late evening.
Responsibilities:
  • Become a Provincially approved MELT Trainer after completing training provided by Roam (Requires the completion of a Provincially mandated written exam and on road driving test.)
  • Provide training and direction to new hires as part of the MELT program, as directed by Roam’s MELT Senior Driving Instructor
  • Provide direct, on-road support, supervision and ensure policy adherence of all transit operators
  • Assist in the ongoing development of Roam training programs and manuals
  • Monitor radio communications and respond to day to day on road operational issues
  • Ensure safe operating procedures are adhered to
  • Periodically conduct and document driver performance reviews and follow-ups
  • Verify and document compliance with policies and regulations
  • Assist in the completion of formal incident investigations
  • Will ensure that incident/collision reports are completed when required
  • Will maintain a daily log of events including, but not limited to customer concerns, driver concerns, and any issues that need to be addressed by operations supervisors.
  • Relay messages, and exchange information using a variety of communication devices, including computer-aided dispatching equipment.
  • Report issues with Roam infrastructure while in the field and assist with minor infrastructure upkeep/maintenance.
  • Use various computer applications and tools.
  • Identify workplace safety hazards, as well as assist in the development, and implementation of controls
  • Relief Dispatching and Roam Driving Shifts as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:Education Requirement:
  • High School Diploma required
  • A college or technical school diploma in a relevant field or discipline is an asset
  • Driver training or other advanced education certificates are assets
Experience:
  • A combination of several years’ experience as a Transit Operator and some Supervisory experience is preferred. However, a candidate with several years of experience in Management and or Supervision in related fields would be considered.
  • Experience in electronic information handling technology such as Dispatch software is considered an asset.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Demonstrated aptitude for conflict resolution and customer service
  • Class 1 or 2 driver’s license and air brake endorsement
  • Driver’s abstract with no more than 3 demerit points
  • Willingness to undergo drug and alcohol screening
  • Ability to handle stressful situations in a composed manner
  • Customer service focus
  • Detailed knowledge of the Bow Valley area
  • Organization and ability to multi-task
  • Diplomacy and tact
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English, oral and written.
Other Requirements, Conditions:
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.
  • Must pass police security clearance.
  • MELT Instructor requirement – must have held a valid Class 1 or 2 driver’s license for at least 3 years.
  • Alberta driver’s license in good standing.
