Job Description

CHOP WOOD, CARRY WATER, LIGHT CAMPFIRES, GET PAID!OK, maybe you won’t get rich at this wage – but if you’re looking for a true Canadian Wilderness experience, this job may be for you.Hostelling International is looking to fill the position of part-time Relief Wilderness Hostel Manager for the 2022 Summer/Fall season. You would be working either 6 days on / 8 days off, or 1 week on / 1 week off at one of the Banff Wilderness hostels, which are small 20-30 bed hostels located off the beaten path in Banff National Park, covering the days off of the regular managers at each facility. These hostels are what we call “rustic”. Theyre small, 24-30 bed properties that either have limited electricity or running water, or just no telephone or limited internet. For what they lack in modern facilities and connectivity, they more than make up for in other ways; waking up to the peaceful quiet of the Wilderness, being able to count the millions of stars so far away from the city, or simply being surrounded by the vastness and indescribable beauty of rugged mountains, hanging glaciers and 400-metre tall waterfalls. As relief manager you would spend the evenings welcoming guests into the facility, answer their questions about local flora, fauna and hikes they might be interested in, then you would get to enjoy the company of these backcountry enthusiasts and international backpackers who make up the majority of our guests. In the morning, its saying goodbye to them, doing a bit of housekeeping, then its time off to spend hiking, biking, climbing or whatever is your favourite way to commune with the mountains that surround you. On your off-weeks, you can go further afield to explore; while working with us, you can stay at any of our 12 hostels in the Parks for free... or any of our hostels elsewhere in Canada, for that matter! If this all sounds good to you and you have access to reliable transportation, then this job may be just what youre looking for. If so - please apply today! This position starts in late April. The position includes a 6% vacation entitlement and on site staff accommodation is provided at no cost at each hostel.Quick Apply
