Job Description

The SNAP® Model is a program for children aged 6 to 11 who are engaging in aggressive, antisocial behaviour and/or have come into contact with the police as a result of their behaviour. Stop Now and Plan (SNAP®) is a manualized cognitive-behavioural program with a goal to prevent further development of antisocial behaviour and chances of future contact with the law. SNAP® helps children and parents deal effectively with anger by teaching them how to respond in a way that makes their problems smaller, not bigger.We currently one opportunity for a:Child and Youth Worker – Community Based- SNAP (Stop Now and Plan) ProgramSimcoe Program (Barrie) - Full-Time – *35 hours /week6-Month Contract with the possibility of being extendedUnionized position OPSEU Local 355

Pay Grid : Level 1: $28.11 - Level 2: $29.52 - Level 3: $30.98Job Summary:We currently have a Child and Youth Worker (CYW) position available with our Intensive Community Support program (SNAP) in the Simcoe program. The SNAP - CYW must have a sound understanding of the theories that inform the development and treatment of problem behaviours and emotional difficulties in latency-aged children and their families. The SNAP - CYW must work collaboratively with the child and family to develop a treatment plan tailored to their individual strengths and needs, managing risky behaviours when necessary. Additionally, the SNAP - CYW provides supportive counselling to the child and youth while also endorsing a scientist-practitioner model, delivering an evidence-based program which includes individual, family and group counselling. The successful candidate will be required to work flexible hours including at minimum 2 evenings per week. In addition, they may be required to work within the clients’ home, in community, and/or in the school environment.Duties & Responsibilities (are not limited to):
  • In collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, assess child and family strengths and needs, including risk identification.
  • Develop treatment plans and goals with the child and family addressing risk management.
  • Carry out various treatment components including individual, family and group counselling with parents/caregivers and child.
  • Implement SNAP therapeutic model guided by CBT framework, and additional modalities as required.
  • Manage high-risk and aggressive behaviour in accordance with Agency standards.
  • Follow program guidelines including writing of reports and record keeping.
  • Provide case management and service coordination as required and liaise with internal and community resources/partners while acting as an advocate when needed.
  • Participation in quality assurance, evaluation and research activities.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a Child & Youth Worker Diploma, or equivalent, is required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience working in the field of children’s mental health.
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and engagement skills.
  • Advance knowledge of group dynamics is required.
  • Computer literacy and effective report writing abilities.
  • Experience working with families experiencing parenting challenges and child mental health and or behavioural issues
  • Working knowledge of evidence informed therapy models and techniques, and the ability to work with families in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Familiarity with fundamentals of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Parent Management training, Role Play and Behaviour Management.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of an inter-disciplinary team.
  • Travel is required for this position; the successful candidate must have a valid Ontario driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle and be willing to obtain automobile insurance which includes driving for business purposes with a minimum liability of one million dollars.
