Job Description

Desktop Imaging Specialist(Job Number: 491-22)REPOSTDepartment: Information TechnologyCampus: BarrieClassification: Support StaffPosting Date: December 15, 2022Salary Range: $39.15 (start rate) - $45.38 (4-year rate)Hours Per Week: 40 hours per weekStatus: Full-timeReporting to the Manager, IT Client Experience, the incumbent provides support services on a college-wide basis concerning the configuration and ongoing technical support or modifications for all computers, systems and peripherals on both the academic and administrative networks. As requested, new installations, upgrades, modifications and repairs will be researched, tested and implemented to meet college requirements. The incumbent participates in the maintenance, upkeep, and design of the college’s application virtualization solution. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:Technical Support

  • Providing resolutions and final level support for issues escalated from front line support
  • Researching, analyzing and troubleshooting solutions independently
  • Diagnosing and modifying systems and documentation where necessary to meet college needs
  • Developing new solutions and/or consult with other IT staff as needed.
  • Acting as a resource to users/clients in determining computer requirements
  • Creating knowledgebase articles
  • Directing and advising Help Desk Technicians to resolve problems at the front line
Application Virtualization System
  • Participating in the design, installation, maintenance, support, monitoring and administration of the college’s application virtualization system, which includes, notification server(s), deployment servers (all campuses), image deployment jobs and solutions, systems inventory, patch management and delivery, software management and delivery, license/system compliance, recovery solutions and asset management
Academic Software
  • Sourcing, testing and evaluating academic software
  • Working with faculty and administrative staff, software vendors and support personnel for timely and reliable installations
  • Developing and documenting procedures for software evaluation and distribution
  • Developing and creating software packages compatible for delivery through the college’s virtualization system. In some cases, modify software for use in college environment, as well as monitor software usage in academic labs
Hardware/Software Systems
  • Installing, maintaining, researching, supporting, documenting and administering hardware and software systems used for the College’s desktops and laptops. This includes applications and services on Macintosh and Windows workstations (academic and administrative), as well as working with Dell to maintain Dell Premiere page for purchases
Imaging
  • Organizing process necessary to complete rollouts of new computer systems and coordinate imaging of computer labs at scheduled times
Projects
  • Coordinating projects as assigned by Manager or on personal initiative
All Other Duties as Required.
  • Includes maintaining current specialized technical knowledge of computer and communication hardware and software
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Successfully completed a three-year postsecondary diploma from a Computer Systems Technician program or similar
  • Certificates and experience in JAMF and AppsAnywhere are preferred
  • Microsoft workstation management and Apple workstation management is an asset
  • Five years’ experience providing:
    • final level support and resolutions
    • application deployment, virtualization technologies, imaging, and working with application deployment management tools (E.G. Microsoft SCCM)
    • technical support to latest Windows operating systems and Office 365
    • technical support to MAC OS computers
  • Experience sourcing, testing, and evaluating software packages including developing and documenting procedures for evaluation and distribution
  • Experience with project management including coordinating projects and organizing rollouts of new systems etc.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) to provide technical guidance and communicate project details to stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and adapt to situations/issues that arise
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects with strict timelines
  • Ability to work independently or within a team environment
  • Minimal travel to Georgian’s regional campuses will be required
  • Must be able to meet the physical needs of the position (i.e. bending, stooping, accessing computers and/or parts from under work areas, and lifting/carrying 5 – 20kg equipment)
  • Experience in an academic environment is an asset
