Job Description

This supply position supports both the Ontario Autism Entry to School Program, and the EarlyON Child and Family Centre programs operated by Empower Simcoe. Using a family centered, collaborative approach to service delivery, on an as needed basis, this position works as part of a team, being responsible for the daily operation of our EarlyON Child and Family Centres and/or Satellite Centres or the Ontario Autism, Entry to School program. This position provides age-appropriate programming for children age 06 and informal parent education, information and referral; this role prepares children with an ASD diagnosis to transition successfully to school. This position works variable hours and availability during the following days/hours:Monday-Wednesday 8:30am to 7:00pmThursday-Friday 8:30am to 4:30pmSaturday 8:30am to 12:30pmCompensation package:

  • Minimum starting rate of $26.55 per hour;
  • 11 statutory holidays are observed, with public holiday pay;
  • 4% vacation pay paid on each pay cheque;
  • Confidential Employer paid EAP program for you and your family members;
Minimum requirements of these positions include:
  • Community college diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education, or an equivalent of education and experience, as deemed acceptable by the employer;
  • Current registration, in good standing, with the College of Early Childhood Educators;
  • One (1) year #39;s experience working with children and families;
  • Experience working with children who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD);
  • Experience working with school professionals and community partners in the Early Learning sector;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, requiring sound judgement, diplomacy, tact and listening skills;
  • Understanding of and ability to apply current Ministry of Education pedagogical practices and policy;
  • Awareness of the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014;
  • Applicants who are bilingual in French, Spanish, Portuguese, Tamil or Urdu are preferred;
Special factors of this position:
  • A valid G class driver #39;s license and own reliable transportation is required;
  • Must maintain specific certifications and licenses/memberships pertaining to areas of expertise (i.e., membership with the College of Early Childhood Educators, etc.);
Duties and responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
  • Working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to implement delivery of the Ontario Autism Entry to School program;
  • Implementing program plans that include play and inquiry-based learning opportunities and acknowledge that all children are competent, capable of complex thinking, curious and rich in potential;
  • Implementing individual and group-based activities that promote development across all developmental domains;
  • Assisting children to develop independence in self-care routines;
  • Engaging in conversations with parents and caregivers about child development, parenting, nutrition, play, and inquiry-based learning;
  • Making referrals as appropriate based on evidence-based screening tools;
  • Providing outreach opportunities designed for specific populations such as newcomers, teen parents, families experiencing income challenges, Grand families, families supported by child protection, etc.;
  • Completing reporting and documentation in an accurate and timely manner;
