Job Details:Position: Indigenous Health System Transformation SpecialistProgram or Team: BANAC – Organization WideLocation: Barrie – Regional Work RequiredSupervisor: Executive Director Mamaway WiidokdaadwinTerm: 1.00 FTESalary: 85,000.00 + BenefitsClosing: November 2, 2022About the Organization:The Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle (BANAC) is a regional planning and community service organization which provides innovative programs and service to Indigenous communities in Simcoe County, Muskoka, and York Region, including wholistic Health Services through the Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin Primary Care Team. As an Interprofessional Health Care Team, Mamaway team members provide primary care, Indigenous healing services, counselling and wellness and health promotion services for Indigenous communities. We provide wholistic services in clinic locations, community and in partnership with mainstream service partners.About the Role:Are you a systems changer with a strong set of project coordination skills Are you passionate about making change in the healthcare sector with Indigenous communities Are you a relationship builder who values innovation and creativityThe Indigenous Health System Transformation Specialist is a dynamic role responsible for the health planning, coordination, and implementation of strategic programs and initiatives across the Central Region as they relate to Indigenous health and wellness. Working at BANAC, this role will implement important initiatives to design and improve access to Indigenous healthcare for Indigenous community members.What You Bring:

  • Post-Secondary education in social services, health, education or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum five years of related experience working with the First Nations, Inuit, Métis and urban-Indigenous communities
  • Strong history of collaboration on projects as evidenced by participation and leadership in regional committees, collaborative tables, and networks
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Ontario health care system
  • Awareness of federal and provincial government policies and their impact on Indigenous health
  • Demonstrated experience building partnerships and relationships with diverse populations, preferably and specifically with Indigenous organization or communities
  • Experience in health care involving project management and prioritization skills, and the ability to lead initiatives from conceptualization to implementation

  • Work is typically performed in clinic, office and community settings. This work requires in-office and on-site support.
  • Regular travel to meetings and communities, will be required – vehicle an asset
  • Regular overtime work may be required from time to time, BANAC team members enjoy a flex schedule agreement
  • Periodic exposure to smoke may occur from the burning of sacred medicines: Tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar.
Specific employment conditions are specified in an employment contract with BANAC and include the following:
  • Worksite location
  • Valid C.P.R. and A.E.D. Certificates required
  • Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License is required with clear check for vulnerable sector
