Job Description

As an important member of the program leadership team, the Manager, Oncology Ambulatory Clinics & Diagnostic Assessment Program is responsible for the effective functioning of the Regional Ambulatory Care Cancer Services. This includes oversight of clerical, nursing and clinic functioning as it relates to best-practice, patient and family experience and Ontario Health-Cancer Care Ontario (OH-CCO) quality and performance metrics. Assists in developing, implementing, monitoring, and revising program-specific guidelines essential to the achievement of OH-CCO performance and scorecard indicators. The Manager also oversees and leads new clinic development and expansion as it relates to volumes, risk, performance and new physician onboarding. The Manager is responsible for ambulatory care planning from new diagnosis to survivorship and palliation. Key responsibilities include clinic optimization, new models of care, evidence-based system-level knowledge of cancer care pathways and standards of cancer care. A highly motivated individual, the Manager demonstrates effective leadership, planning and management skills combined with exceptional problem solving and change management abilities. A system thinker, the Manager understands continuous improvement and lean principles to continue to enhance and improve the experience of the patient and family in the cancer system in North Simcoe Muskoka. The Manager assists with the implementation of comprehensive cancer care and services working with fiscal, administrative, clinical and medical teams to best meet the needs of patients and their families. Lastly, the Manager is responsible for regular data reporting, analytics, trending and reporting at both the Regional and Senior leader level.Education:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is required with Masters Preparation preferred
  • Current CNO registration (general class) in good standing required
  • DeSouza or ONS chemotherapy/biotherapy/navigation or equivalent course work completion an asset
  • CNA (Canadian Nurses Association) certification in Oncology (CONC) an asset
Experience:
  • Minimum of five years progressive experience in acute healthcare setting required
  • Minimum three years progressive management/leadership experience required
  • Experience working in the cancer system is required
  • Experience managing large projects required
  • Ambulatory oncology clinic leadership experience preferred
  • Previous malignant hematology experience preferred
  • Experience in managing competing demands in a face-paced, multi-focused, multidisciplinary health care environment
  • Involvement in related professional organizations preferred (CANO, RNAO, etc)

  • Ability to work effectively in a wide range of settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience in managing in a unionized work environment
  • Develops and uses effective communication strategies both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of Electronic Health Records such as Meditech, ARIA Oncology Information System is preferred

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Onboarding new providers and staff, coordinating patient flow and services and practice operations.
  • Works collaboratively with oncologists, the inter-professional team and the cancer leadership team to provide a continuum of patient care from prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and survivorship.
  • Complies with provincial as well as accreditation standards.
  • Develops departmental initiatives that focus on employee engagement, process improvement initiatives, patient satisfaction, and workplace safety.
  • Acts as a resource and facilitates collaboration between team members and other healthcare disciplines throughout the organization and within the healthcare community.
  • Seeks out opportunities to build relationships with providers, hospital and specialty peers, and other resources who can contribute to improving access of services.
  • Develops and monitors relationships with outside agencies and other departments; encourages community education by initiating participation in community events to promote awareness and enhance public relations.
  • Manages and oversees the necessary space, equipment and supplies for the hematology/medical oncology/gynecologic clinics
  • Participates in provider recruitment and supports onboarding.
  • Works closely with SMRCC leadership team developing business strategies, formulating budgets, and dealing with daily operations.
  • Manages providers daily schedules to ensure full utilization.
  • Works collaboratively with physician and advance practice clinicians to optimize patient care.
  • Maintaining own professional best practice of clinical or managerial interest.
  • Participates in continuing education programs and certification, as appropriate.
  • Ensure professional development opportunities are available for all Oncology outpatient staff that are relevant to role, scope of practice and professional trends.
  • Supports the mission, values, philosophy and objectives of the hospital.
  • Participates in department and hospital committees as required
  • Supports a culture that encourages learning from students, staff, patients and families.
  • Monitoring of performance of the team, against OH-CCO KPI’s, business plans and budgets to ensure targets are achieved.
  • Uses and understands organizational decision making tools which include workload, productivity, patient data and financial reports.
  • Ensures supplies, equipment, space and human resources are effectively utilized in accordance with organizational expectations.
  • Performance management of direct reports (in partnership with Human resources)
  • Working with colleagues in the administrative leadership team and interagency partners to ensure understanding and application of integrated program plans and improvement initiatives as per the RVH Strategic Plan
