Job Description

Part-Time Professor, Surveying(Job Number: 472-22)Department: Engineering & Environmental TechnologiesCampus: BarrieClassification: AcademicPosting Date: November 11, 2022Status: Part-TimeEffective Date: January 2, 2023THIS POSITION SUPPORTS SURVEY COURSES IN THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS:

  • Environmental Sustainability Degree Diploma
  • Environmental Technician/Technology Diploma Programs
  • Civil Engineering Technician/Technology Programs
  • Architectural Technician/Technology Diploma Programs
Reporting to the Associate Dean, specific duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Delivering the Environmental Surveying (SURV 2002) and/or the Architectural Surveying (SURV 1002) courses and/or Civil Surveying (SURV 1003).
  • Developing and delivering appropriate curriculum to meet course objectives.
  • Incorporating a variety of teaching and learning strategies to meet student needs.
  • Evaluating students’ learning progress and their academic achievements.
  • Participating in program and college activities as required.
  • Participating in program revision and renewal activities as required.
  • Creating and maintaining a positive learning environment.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Successfully completed a recognized bachelors degree program in a related field or acquired significant industry experience after graduating from a related advanced diploma program
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a related industry (e.g. municipal or provincial applications, engineering or land surveying firms, conservation authorities).
  • Relevant experience in cadastral, topographic and control surveying, monitoring surveys and survey layout.
  • Industry experience using Total Stations and related equipment, Global Positioning System (GPS) applications, surveying software applications (AutoCAD, MicroStation or equivalent) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Commitment to life-long learning.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment and to foster the same in students.
VALUABLE ASSETS:
  • Experience in some or all of the following: teaching at post-secondary level, curriculum development, a variety of delivery strategies, adult learning methodologies, academic advising, and student success strategies.
  • Teaching and Training Adults certification.
  • Computer literacy: ArcGIS.
  • Familiarity with 3D scanning technology for surveying.
  • Current membership, or affiliation, with relevant professional associations (e.g. AOLS).
