Job Description

The Patient Portal is an essential component of the patients healthcare journey, supporting patients with access and self-management of their own health information. The Patient Portal Coordinator role is an integral role that links patients to their record with a focus on providing digital literacy support. The coordinator facilitates the development of patient education materials and supports the production of online and in-person learning modules.Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in a health-related field or equivalent combination of education/experience related to health information;
  • Experience navigating the MEDITECH Expanse Patient Portal an asset;
  • Minimum 3-5 years practical and related experience in a hospital setting;
  • Thorough knowledge of the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and the Public Hospital’s Act with respect to Release of Information;
  • Certification with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) an asset;
  • Fluency in French is an asset
Competencies:
  • Proven ability to evaluate the severity of issues, recommend solutions and escalate where necessary
  • Conflict resolution skills are an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and listening skills;
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills required; knowledge of digital platforms will ensure success
  • Knowledge of functionality and navigating personal devices (e.g. smartphones, tablets, computers)
  • Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement
  • Strong computer skills (Internet, Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Proven adaptability to varying roles and responsibilities as needs and priorities of the position evolve;
  • Knowledge and experience working with those who have low digital literacy skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build successful working relationships with all levels of staff
  • Fluency in French is an asset
Responsibilities:
  • Assists Patients with login and way finding of the Patient Portal
  • Answers/Directs questions to proper authorities
  • Monitors and reports on benefits, outcomes, and quality improvements measures
  • Collaborates with Regional Privacy Office, Health Records, Registration and Clinical Application Specialists for accuracy and timely information input
