Job Description

Out and About is a Forest and Nature Program, directed at providing time and space for children and families in natural spaces. Out and About is located in Beachburg and Petawawa, ON, and expanding to Arnprior.Why Should You ApplyOut and About offers a flexible work schedule and great work-life balance. Out and About recognizes the important role it plays in strengthening values of equity, social justice, and diversity, and inclusion. We believe in the power of play, the importance of connecting with the land and guiding children as they harness life-skills.Further Requirements: Current First Aid Certificate.Current Criminal Record Check.Experience working with children.Preferably experience in outdoor education focusing on play-based, student-led learning.Leadership RolesGreat interpersonal skills with children, co-educators, and parents. Valid drivers license and access to vehicle (preferred)Duties of Educators:

  • Engaging in a child-led forest school program, with a view of the child as competent, capable, curious, and conscious of their own decisions.
  • Comfortable in storytelling, observing play and sharing with co-educators.
  • Demonstrating and modeling risk-assessment skills while ensuring the safety of the children as they engage in risky play in the forest.
  • Prepare to spend the full day outdoors and be active.
  • Modeling respectful and compassionate communication with an emphasis on rights-based education.
  • Healthy and collaborative communication with caregivers and co-workers. The enthusiasm of working outside regardless of the weather (rain, sleet, snow, heat) includes the ability to walk distances over uneven terrain, carry a backpack and various supplies.
  • Advocate for and support the benefits of risk-taking, movement, and physical development in the early years.
  • Model and co-learn outdoor skills including risk management, knots, shelter building, self-care/appropriate clothing, leave-no-trace practices, and interacting with local wildlife.
  • Set up and tear down of site, making note of items that need to be replaced or added, organize bins and store properly in order to ensure our supplies last.
When Will You StartWe are closed for our full-time programs from Decemeber 1st, 2022-March 1st, 2022.However, we offer drop-in day programs throughout the winter that new staff are welcome to apply for. This will enable you to gain more experience in the programs, resilience in the outdoors and familiarize yourself with how our programs operate.Job Type: Part-timePart-time hours: 6.5-24 per weekSalary: $17.50-$22.00 per hourBenefits:
