Our Beaumont team is collaborative, professional, and passionate about supporting the vision of a vibrant, growing, and spirited community.The Manager will lead a range of economic development initiatives related to land development, investment, small business and entrepreneurship, partnerships, workplace development, advertising and even smart city initiatives and workforce development strategies. The Manager will assess businesses at various stages of the economic life cycle to initiate, develop and deliver programs to support business retention and growth within the city. The Manager will also own the City’s key economic development partnership relationships and agreements. The successful individual will be a connector and influencer and bring private sector or a combination of private sector/municipal government experience to our team.What YOU’RE Responsible for: · Supervises the Economic Development Coordinator as well as temporary staff/students that may be brought onboard from time to time.· Builds and manages relationships with land developers, real estate agents, local businesses, regional stakeholders to foster, retain and grow business within Beaumont· Does ‘business walks’ in the community to build relationships with local businesses· Manages relationships, negotiations and partnerships, including memorandums of understanding and or other agreements with private sector, non-governmental organizations, and stakeholder organizations· Manages the Seed Coworking & Flexible Office Space day-to-day operations and responsible to build capacity and programing to maximize facility offerings and use· Manages and seeks opportunities for continuous improvement in Economic Development programs such as the Sponsorship and Advertising program and the Business Licence program· Manages the development and implementation of programs and strategies such as a business retention and expansion and a workforce development strategy for the City of Beaumont with stakeholders and interest groups· Provides strategic economic development support to broader regional projects, including smart city and community planning initiatives· Leads and coordinates the formation of interdepartmental teams to address economic development issues/mandates and strategic planning· In collaboration with the Communications team, the Manager will oversee external communication (e.g. websites, social media, print, press releases, promotional material, etc)· Manages inquiries from external organizations and agencies, the public, media and local/regional partners· Represents the team on various external committees such as Edmonton Global and Chamber of Commerce· Reports on economic development projects, local success stories, investment opportunities, and economic programs to both internal and external stakeholders· Identifies and pursues opportunities from provincial and federal government for economic development projects and program delivery· Makes recommendations to the Director around program development, project partnerships and economic growth strategies· Supports as Acting Director and other managers as needed· Participates in the Health and Safety Programs and acquire First Aid and other safety training to meet regulatory and best practices in the workplace· Performs related duties as requiredWhat YOU Bring: · A degree in Commerce, Economics, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, or Marketing - mixed with real-world business experience.· Ec.D designation also considered asset· Progressive experience related to the duties and responsibilities of the position. A minimum of 8+ years professional experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required· Solid experience developing actionable business strategies and understanding of business operations including strategic planning, financing, marketing, supply chains and expansion· Strong proven leadership experience leading people through change, and delivering high quality outcomes in a dynamic environment· Exceptional communication, networking, and professional relationship building skills, demonstrating tact and diplomacy to establish trust and credibility while building strong and successful working relationships with private and public stakeholders, regional economic development peers, partners, consultants, non-governmental agencies, developers and real estate groups· Awareness of political sensitivities, excellent negotiation, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills· Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities to bring projects and deals to completion using sound judgment, initiative, and creativity in a fast-paced, politically sensitive environment· Proficiency with Salesforce CRM or related Customer Relations Management programs· Demonstrate superior writing skills, including the editing, oversight or preparation of technical reports and the presentation of information to internal and external stakeholders· Possess strong problem solving, critical thinking and adaptability skills· Strong attention to detail and accuracy particularly under pressure· Ability to work independently to meet deadlines and prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously· Participate in the Health and Safety Programs and acquire First Aid and other safety training to meet regulatory and best practices· Reports to the Director of Economic DevelopmentWhat WE Offer: This position offers a salary range of $97,734 - $127,521 (starting salary is negotiable within this range based on suitable experience and qualifications) and a competitive benefits package.
