Job Description

With manufacturing facilities throughout the U.S. and Mexico, Vitro Architectural Glass is committed to sustainable manufacturing processes and products.Vitro also operates one of the world’s largest glass research and development facilities in Pittsburgh, PA and has four residential glass fabrication plants in Canada.Website:www.vitroglazings.comThis position is responsible for the safe and profitable operation of both the Flat Glass Distribution and Insulated Glass Fabrication portions of Vitro Architectural Glass operations in Halifax, Nova Scotia and St. John’s, Newfoundland. These responsibilities include managing the fabrication and delivery of flat glass products and, along with supporting staff, overseeing all aspects of operations with a focus on bottom-line profitability and customer satisfaction.The incumbent ensures that the facility is in compliance with all aspects of Vitro’s Environment, Health and Safety requirements to ensure a safe and environmentally sound workplace.The incumbent is responsible for financial control of the site, including building and maintaining the operating budget to deliver maximum operational efficiency and lowest possible cost, and making sure that spending is within budget, while meeting customer quality and delivery requirements.

  • Provide the leadership, guidance and resources to achieve and maintain site compliance with all aspects of Vitro’s Environmental, Health and Safety requirements to ensure a safe and healthy work environment that prevents work-related accidents, illnesses and/or injuries.
  • Manage and profitably grow the Sales Plan for the Atlantic Canadian Provinces. Manage and support sales staff.
  • Utilize planning, control and just-in-time concepts to ensure products are produced, packaged, and shipped in time to meet daily customer demands.
  • Work closely with management team: Office Supervisor, Operations Manager, Customer Service Manager, Account Representative and Site Supervisor (St. John’s Newfoundland).
  • Manage the Capital Spending Plan for the Halifax and St. John’s facility. Prepare Sales and Business Plans for future capital investments in plant and equipment.
  • Work closely with the Canadian General Manager, sales staff, and sales order desk to meet customer requirements.
  • Work closely with the US and Mexico Vitro Glass and Coating Factories, US Marketing Team, and US Sales and Technical support staff to meet customer requirements.
  • Utilize proper inventory management, and good housekeeping practices to ensure efficient flow and minimum waste.
  • Champion cost control to ensure plant spending remains at or below established budget level.
Computer proficiency is required, and the incumbent must have excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.A minimum of ten years’ experience in a key leadership role in a manufacturing environment is required and experience in flat glass distribution and insulated glass production is highly desirable. A strong background in inventory management, customer relations and Continuous Improvement is highly desirable. The incumbent must have excellent organizational, managerial and interpersonal skills to make appropriate operating judgements involving safety, technical, engineering, financial, and human resource aspects of the operation.
