Job Description

Who are WeWe are a fast-moving and constantly growing landscape construction and maintenance company operating in Nova Scotia and PEI. Our work is a mix of commercial and residential, starting from design all the way through to maintenance. We are one of the largest landscapers in the Atlantic provinces that focuses on the most premier projects like the Peggy’s Cove Viewing Deck, Argyle Streetscape, Queen’s Marque, Seaport Farmer’s Market and many more. We are a culture that challenges its employees to improve, learn new skills and solve all problems for our customers that come our way.The Bedford location of Trim Landscaping is currently looking for a Controller to join our team. As a member of the management team the Controller plays a critical role in a volume-based business like ours. The Controller is our confidante day-to-day to ensure that financial controls are in place, and effective to make sure our margins are maintained as we grow. The Controller is not just a maintainer and reporter, they are a strategic equal we depend on to move the business forward.Responsibilities:

  • Full cycle accounting for entire business
  • Oversee administrative function for the business
  • Reviews and sets accounting policies for the business
  • Assist in the review and finalization of the annual budget
  • Preparation of forecasts and projections as required by external stakeholders
  • Insurance, banking, vendors, etc
  • Ensure timely payment of subcontractors and suppliers
  • Oversee reconciliation of vendor statements and banking records to ensure completeness of accounting records
  • Completion of all customer billing for construction and maintenance based on specific contracts
  • Audit and process payroll on bi-weekly basis
  • Calculate and submit government remittances including payroll and HST filings
  • Manage and oversee daily cash flow position
  • Preparation and analysis of monthly reporting package to owners and other stakeholders
  • Profitability analysis based on projects, lines of businesses and project managers
  • Prepare the annual review engagement for the external accountants and acts as the resource person during the review process
  • Help evaluate and analyze viability of new ventures through start-up or mergers and acquisitions
  • Other adhoc duties as requested
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field
  • MBA is not required but would be considered an asset
  • 5+ years proven accounting experience
  • Professional accounting certification; CPA
  • Experience with Quickbooks Online will be considered an asset
  • Detail oriented, strong organizational skills and the ability to commit to, and meet tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, analyze, and problem solve complex issues
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite of products. With advanced Excel skills, comfortable creating and analyzing complex financial models and spreadsheets.
