Job OverviewOrganization Recreation Nova ScotiaJob Title Digital Media and Communications ManagerLocation 201 -1600 Bedford Hwy, Bedford, NS B4A 1E8Reports To Executive DirectorGeneral Job DescriptionThis position is designed to lead communication efforts of both Recreation Nova Scotia and the Recreation Facilities Association of Nova Scotia, including activities, projects, and events. Managing communication tools including social media outlets, website, and analytics. Additionally, the job will highlight and distribute resources related to programming, funding opportunities, initiatives, and professional development opportunities to Members, Nova Scotians, and the recreation sector via internal and external communications. In the role you will work directly with Stakeholders (Government Officials, Municipal Recreation Staff, Partners etc.).The role will be split as follows:

  • 3.5 days Recreation Nova Scotia (RNS)
  • 1.5 days Recreation Facilities Association of Nova Scotia (RFANS)
Duties and ResponsibilitiesOrganizational:
  • Check messages/notifications from all social media platforms share relevant recreation sector news and events
  • Keep RNS and RFANS website up to date and relevant including the events, news, and job sections
  • Create and distribute surveys, reports, and evaluations
  • Support staff with communications regarding projects, trainings, and tasks
  • Other duties as assigned
Membership:
  • Create and distribute monthly newsletter to members
  • Keep contacts up to date
  • Distribute other communications as needed
Communications:
  • Create visuals including graphics for social media, flyers, banners, posters, etc. (basic knowledge of Adobe InDesign or Canva preferred)
  • Collaborate with staff to determine communication priorities
  • Support committees and working groups
  • Written communications including media releases, blogs, articles, presentations, and annual reports.
  • Content creation and marketing
  • Research skills and ability to track digital activity
  • Create and execute online campaigns for initiatives
  • Implement communications strategies such as a communications/marketing plans and content calendars
Education and TrainingA degree or diploma in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Business, and/or Journalism or equivalent experience in social media and web and content management, marketing, and communications.Knowledge and Experience
  • Minimum of two years applicable communications experience
  • Additional education and/or experience in non-profit and recreation sectors considered an asset
  • Knowledge of trends related to physical activity/sport/recreation
  • Understanding of media relations and digital strategies
  • Proficient in MS Office: familiarity with design software (e.g. InDesign, Canva, Publisher) and content management systems (Hootsuite, Constant Contact) is a plus
  • Website maintenance (general knowledge of Joomla considered an asset)
  • Excellent communication abilities (oral and written)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Self-directed in completing assigned tasks
  • Able to work effectively in teams
  • Able to lead and take directions as appropriate
  • Strong networking and relationship building skills
Work DetailsWork Environment Negotiable (Remote work allowed ).
