Full Job DescriptionWe are looking for a Dispatcher to work out of our Bedford, NS site.As a Dispatcher you will be required to communicate with drivers to assist with problem resolution while on route. Furthermore, handling incoming service orders, directs drivers, and resolves service issues. Interacts with customers, including customer service, sales, and operational staff. The dispatcher will use specialized software to enter ticket information, track productivity, and ensure deliveries are completed on time.Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that deliveries are completed in accordance with established policies
  • Dispatch calls to drivers based upon designated route and driver location
  • Perform driver check-ins to ensure job completion and address exceptions
  • Ensure coordination with other departments when resolving service issues
  • Trouble shoots and resolves potential delivery and pickup problems before they result in service issues
  • Assists in determining daily level of driver staffing to provide best mix of responsiveness and productivity
  • Records and document information from drivers and distributes to appropriate departments
  • Communicates with maintenance shop personnel
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally via email, telephone and two way devices
  • Provides real-time support for drivers for process questions, delivery issues, and any extraordinary situations
  • May perform some additional responsibilities as assigned by the General Manager
  • Support and maintain business metrics (On-time deliveries, signature capture, deliveries/hour)
  • Provide guidance to CSRs and Sales Representatives regarding custom jobs, and if the company can fulfill certain types of customer requests.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
  • Experience in a transportation, dispatch or customer service role (knowledge of courier industry would be an asset)
  • Team player that can accept shared responsibility
  • Strong communication and relationship building capabilities
  • Problem solving/decision making skills
  • Proven ability to multi-task & ability to prioritize tasks
  • Advanced skill level with software applications and word processing accuracy including adequate typing speed
  • Required to work Mon-Fri 7:30 – 4, with weekend coverage when necessary
