Finally, by maintaining informed responses to the cultural needs of the sector, we sustain a vibrant Cultural Competency.THIS MOMENT, THIS POSITIONThe Health Care Human Resource Sector Council is seeking a thoughtful Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Liaison to help increase the Council’s capacity, particularly in community care (disability supports) sectors. This person will help develop equitable recruitment and retention strategies and inspire welcoming workplaces for those from communities who are currently under-represented in the sector workforces.This work will increase representation of the populations served, by providing support to engage and foster a culturally competent workforce.The Council is well positioned to undertake this work through experience in development and delivery of Leadership Programs for diversity in the workplace and strong representation of the sectors in our Board and Project Advisory Group project models.This work will complement the Council’s ongoing efforts in recruitment and retention as well as expand resources for employers to support welcoming workplaces through the Knowledge Hub projects.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Liaison will work with the Executive Director and a sector-represented Project Working Group to:

  • Identify groups and communities in Nova Scotia that are currently underrepresented, and build connections in the continuing and community care sectors in order to achieve a workforce that is more representative and addresses workforce shortages in the sector.
  • Work with identified groups and communities to understand how we might support their communities in participation in the sector workforces i.e. visiting communities to learn more about engagement skills, needs and recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Develop a network database for community members. Key contacts.
  • Share information on employment opportunities in the sectors through information sessions, small group meetings, and round table events.
  • Conduct an environment scan within the sectors of training needs to identify existing and/or gaps in resources to inform workplace diversity, engagement and inclusion inventory and promote welcoming workplace resources provided by partner organizations such as NS Works.
  • Help support organizations with understanding what is available from a DEI Training perspective.
  • Work with Immigration and settlement organizations to identify resources such as the Atlantic Immigration Pilot and provide support to sector employers in accessing services and resources. (Liaise with ISANS)
  • Coordinate information and training sessions for people in the industry who want to better understand the issues related to workplace inclusion, including guest speakers as required. (Liaison and introduce).
  • Bring a diversity lens to the Health Care Human Resource Sector Council including current activities and approaches to effectively connect with diverse groups and communities.
  • Develop a communications strategy to increase engagement of underrepresented groups.
Impact Measurement:
  • Assist in developing an impact evaluation framework for Labour Market and DEI-related initiatives.
  • Maintain records and data in order to measure impact to inform ongoing project initiatives.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate is a thoughtful, human-centric advisor who has strong communication and relationship-building skills. They are an advocate and champion who is eager to strengthen partner relationships and co-create the conditions for under-represented community members to thrive in the health care human resource sector. This person is motivated to track, assess and report on progress related to diversity, equity and inclusion metrics.EXPERIENCE
  • Experience in training facilitation or adult learning is considered an asset.
  • Cultural Competency Training.
  • Experience working in diverse communities (work or volunteering).
  • Experience working with multifaceted organizations (Government, Healthcare).
The selected candidate will need to have access to a vehicle, as well proof of at least two COVID-19 vaccinations .THE PACKAGEThis role is an 8 month term contract with the opportunity for growth and extensionSALARY: $66,000 / year (Pro-rated for 8-month term)WHAT TO EXPECT
