This is a full time permanent role with our Atlantic Operations located at our office in Bedford, NS. Reporting to the Head of Permitting, you will lead current and future projects through permitting. This includes working with other senior staff, direct reports, government regulators and contractors to ensure safe, timely and proper delivery of project needs. The Permitting Superintendent is responsible to deliver a project to meet or exceed applicable environmental and operational standards.The Opportunity:

  • Ensuring and monitoring safety in the workplace by identifying and addressing hazards, participating in improving safety and ensuring all reporting requirements are completed.
  • Planning and delivering the permitting of current and future mine projects including but not limited to Federal and Provincial Environmental Assessments, Industrial Approvals, Fisheries Authorization, Water Withdrawals, Wetland Alterations.
  • Managing technical consultants and contractors to ensure safety, quality, timing and budgets are met. Developing and regularly communicating project controls such as schedule and cost updates.
  • Identifying requirements to meet regulatory needs, and subsequent planning and implementation of key programs and initiatives including required baseline data collection, modelling, and analysis.
  • Delegating work appropriately to staff members and consultants; providing oversight and quality control.
  • Engaging leadership on a regular basis on effectiveness of current systems to ensure that requirements of environmental assessment and permit applications are met.
  • Managing compliance with various existing and any new environmental approvals and permits for current and planned activities.
  • Overseeing and developing regulatory submissions including ensuring that the scope of work is appropriate to the application; the quality of submission is sound both technically and editorially; and that timelines and budgets are achieved.
  • Supporting engagement activities as required in collaboration with other teams including direct public and First Nations engagement; external collaboration (e.g., university programs).
  • Preparing communications materials; and maintenance of communication logs (e.g., Borealis).
  • Contract management, proposal review, coordinating the approvals process for work scope budgets.

  • Current unencumbered Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related and relevant discipline.
  • 3 or more years experience in coordinating technical work and teams.
  • Strong background and experience in mining or construction operations.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills, strong computer skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in management of staff especially multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Development and monitoring of budgets related to environmental field programs.
  • Background in developing and auditing environmental practices and performance.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, standards, and effective industry practices.
