Job Description

CHILD AND YOUTH INSTRUCTORPosition Type: Temporary Full TimeNumber of Positions: One (1)Department: Community Services Department - Recreation DivisionFile Number: SV24-168Location: Quinte Sports and Wellness CentreHours: Between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM Monday to Friday and 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM on Saturday to Sunday, approximately 2-10 hours per weekEmployee Group: Non-UnionSalary: $18.56 - $21.68 per hourClosing Date: May 22, 2025 at 4:30 PM PURPOSE AND SCOPE:As a member of the Community Services Department, this position will provide participants, through effective teaching methods,(in their designated recreational program) with an opportunity to acquire new knowledge and skills in a variety of general or special interest activities in a friendly, engaging, and caring environment.This anticipated commencement of this position is July 2025 until August 2025.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Represent the City of Belleville in a professional manner with appropriate actions and conduct.
  • Responsible for the safety and supervision of the participants and to ensure the rules and regulations set out by the Department and/or outside organizations are followed.
  • Responsible for the planning, development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of the activities being led to ensure a successful program.
  • Ensuring their participants’ names and health conditions/modifications are known and that attendance is taken each class.
  • Ensure the completion and submission of all required administrative forms (lesson plans, injury reports, supply requests, etc.) as per the Department procedures.
  • Responsible for problem-solving when issues arise and providing quality customer service.
  • Assume the responsibility for assessing and responding in an emergency situation and completing the necessary reports as per the Department procedures.
  • Responsible for the proper handling, cleanliness, and care of the equipment, supplies, and facilities and to report any damages or losses to the supervisor.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and trainings as required.

  • Minimum enrolled in High School or equivalent.
  • Hold a current Standard First Aid and C.P.R. certification.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Post secondary education in child/youth related fields considered as asset.
  • Hold the High Five, Healthy Child Development certification.
  • Coaching/Instructing Certification (i.e., National Coaching Certificate)
