As corrections professionals, we provide the safe and secure custody of adults and young offenders and deliver programs that promote public safety and reduce re-offending.We work directly with offenders, supporting positive change in their lives and work toward successful reintegration into the community.The Ministry is accepting applications for Permanent Part-time Correctional Officers for Besnard Lake, Saskatchewan. Correctional Officers are positive, motivated and energetic role models that are non-judgmental and have excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Correctional Officers are leaders that embrace diversity and equality.Role of a Correctional Officer

  • Work closely with adult offenders who may have special needs, gender differences and various cultural and spiritual belief systems.
  • Work with adult offenders to support positive changes and reintegration using knowledge of human behaviour and communication.
  • Establish, build and maintain work relationships with effective interpersonal communication (both written and verbal).
  • Appropriately apply policy, procedures and legislation.
  • Be responsible for the security of adult inmates in different correctional settings.
  • Maintain a level of fitness to meet the requirements of a physically demanding work environment.
  • Be available for shift work.
Ideal CandidateBecoming a Correctional Officer requires a combination of knowledge, skills and attributes, which includes:
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice systems.
  • Knowledge of human behaviour and interpersonal communications to support positive change from an informed perspective.
  • The ability to solve problems using good judgment while following appropriate policy and procedures.
  • Knowledge, skills and attributes in social sciences, correctional services, or similar discipline.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • A collaborative and supportive team player.
  • Proficiency with various computer systems and programs.
  • A commitment to ongoing learning and continuous improvement.
  • A valid Class 5 drivers licence and First Aid CPR/AED.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada at the time you apply for a position.
Physical RequirementsThe Corrections Officers Physical Abilities Test (COPAT) is a timed physical abilities test that is comprised of activities designed to reflect the physical challenges faced in a corrections environment.The COPAT is mandatory and must be completed prior to receiving an offer of employment.
