Job Description

Position Summary:Reporting to the Shop Manager, the Mechanic Shop Labourer is responsible to provide workshop support and maintenance to the heavy duty mechanic shop and other areas as required. Duties include general labour/cleaning support within the R amp;M workshop to ensure safe work areas are maintained. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To provide general maintenance of workshop areas to provide a safe working environment
  • To provide general labour support tasks within the workshop (This may include lifting, handling large and/or awkward loads)
  • To provide general maintenance of cleaning tools and equipment
  • Change and rotate tires on large equipment in a safe manner within protocol
  • To be the#39;parts runner #39; when needed and to provide this service as efficiently as possible
  • Handle materials within the shop and outdoors as required
  • Operate basic hand tools and powered hand tools
  • Operate equipment as described in company procedures
  • To comply with the requirements of Health and Safety Regulations
  • To monitor and report any equipment and tools needing repair
  • Perform general tasks as assigned by their Supervisor
  • Perform all work safely and follow established work procedures
  • To maintain a clean and tidy working environment within the workshop and other areas
  • Other duties as required
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
  • Previous experience in a shop environment will be considered an asset
  • Willing and able to work shift work and/or overtime
  • Must be punctual, with limited absences, and possess a strong work ethic
  • Must be able to perform physically demanding work
  • Requires basic reading and writing skills
  • Able to communicate in an effective and professional manner
  • Requires certified steel toed boots
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers License with clean driving record
Working Conditions
  • Primary work area is the heavy duty mechanic shop with additional work areas defined as required
  • This role requires the employee to spend time outdoors, and therefore various weather conditions
  • Some shop facilities at the Rack are not heated and the employee should be prepared for cold temperatures in the winter months.
