Job Description

Position Purpose:The Corporate Security Guard will monitor the Home Depot’s Canadian Innovation Centre (IC). This associate will be responsible for the maintenance and monitoring of the physical security, associate & vendor security, safety and asset protection. They will also assist the Innovation Centre Manager address security and safety related issues. The Corporate Security guard will act as a first point of contact for HD associates and vendors visiting the IC. The guard will be responsible for supporting the communication, education and adherence of safety and security related policies and procedures for all associates and visitors in the innovation centre. The nature of the work will include stationing at the main security desk, routine patrols of the IC floor, interaction with visitors as well as administrative work. The position requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.Position Responsibilities:

  • Patrol the IC and investigate unusual occurrences
  • Occupy the front desk to greet, engage, direct and educate all HD associates and visitors to the IC
  • Open and close the building as required.
  • Answering phones and connecting with the IC MET team and IC manager for resolution Support the booking of bays within the IC for HD associates and vendors as directed by the IC Manager
  • Manage internal Home Depot bookings for meeting rooms in the IC
  • Write incident reports on actual or potential loss and interview victims and witnesses
  • Respond to emergency situations of various types at the IC
  • Perform security inspection tours; document problems and notify appropriate personnel
  • The Corporate Security for the IC may occasionally work at the Toronto Store Support Centre
Monitor security check points at the IC as directed to screen and control eventsPerform other duties as assignedExperience/Knowledge Required:
  • Internal Candidates: Must fulfill minimum time-in-position (1 year) and performance management code requirements (M+ Meets Expectations).
  • Possess a valid Security License (Home Depot Canada will also conduct a Background Check)
  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED
  • Three to six months of experience is preferred
  • Verbal and written communication skills to review and complete required reports and record keeping activities
  • Problem solving skills to address challenging situations
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills for dealing with sensitive and controversial issues
  • Able to effectively build relationships and work well with others to effectively interact with and communicate with HD associates and visitors
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word) is an asset.
  • Must possess logical skills and inspect HD property to ensure safety of HD associates and visitors
