Job Description

Job title: Shipping managerRole and responsibilities:Reporting to the Shipping Supervisor, the Shipping Foreman is responsible for all activities related to the shipment of our products, within established parameters and prescribed deadlines. He/she demonstrates leadership at all times and promotes, through his/her actions, health and safety in the workplace.Your challenges: Implement the shipping department #39;s action plan based on the company #39;s strategic orientations.- Manage the department #39;s daily activities.- Move the necessary manpower to ensure sound management related to these operations.- Process departmental requests according to the specific needs of the value chain. Define shipping performance objectives. Generate and analyze shipping performance reports. Analyze variances and make recommendations and action plans. Analyze variances in shift crew performance against targets, find solution either through training, maintenance assistance, revision of standard work, etc....- Analyze and take action on production delays encountered in the sheeting departments, on line 1, and in shipping. Take necessary action, communicate with customer service, carriers and other collaborators.- Ensure good collaboration with the maintenance department, issue work orders for equipment repairs and improvements. Report on departmental performance indicators on a daily basis.- Daily operational reporting for shipping departments to management. His actions, health, and safety at work. Deploy and enforce work methods that promote flexibility and efficiency.- Move staff to optimize plant flexibility and efficiency, and manage resistance to change where necessary.- Evaluate the hours needed to catch up production in a department, and build an action plan with the workforce.- Ensure full transparency and synergy between the sheeting, production, and shipping departments. Supervise the shipping team, which works three shifts (day, evening, weekend).- Implement operational changes in collaboration with the day, evening and weekend team.- Ensure knowledge transfer between the three shifts.- Implement new work methods. Develop and maintain a motivating and productive climate with the team under his/her responsibility by providing them with the necessary administrative and professional support, developing their skills and evaluating their performance.- Provide the necessary administrative and professional support to ensure the development of employees #39; skills and the evaluation of their performance.- Implement a culture of communication and employee motivation.- Evaluate and plan training for employees to ensure their future development.- Wear PPE: goggles, mask, safety boots, earplugs and bib.- Follow-up on OHS training requested by OHS supervisor.- Follow-up of pallet truck and forklift inspections.- Department tour, storage rack section. Support continuous improvement working groups.- Ensure compliance with new continuous improvement procedures.- Implement a problem-solving and total quality mentality.- Listen and be on the lookout for ideas to improve performance.- Always put customer service at the top of the priority list. Keep work areas clean and tidy.- Use of maintenance pyramids and cleaning according to downtime.- Tour of departments for cleanliness in the workplace.- Management training an asset.- Minimum 5 years #39; experience as a shipping department manager in a manufacturing environment.- Functional English - The person will be required to work in collaboration with colleagues at our head office in the USA.- Experience in a production-to-order environment an asset.- Comfortable working in a computerized environment (ERP, Office Suite).- Recognized leadership.
