Job Description

Established in 1965, Easter Seals Camp Horizon specializes in an accessible and inclusive summer camp experience for individuals with disabilities and medical conditions. We offer programs such as high ropes, rock climbing, camping, arts and crafts, leadership training and much more! Easter Seals fosters a work environment that is inclusive as well as diverse, where our people can be themselves. Every idea and perspective is valued to reflect the people we serve. The Facilitator position(s) are responsible for leading our more technical programming, such as our high ropes course, offsite hikes, and archery. These positions require exceptional communication skills, organization, and risk management skills.What You’ll Be Doing

  • Facilitate inclusive, accessible, and educational outdoor programming.
  • Continually ensuring the safety of all participants through proactive risk management and following industry guidelines for best practice.
  • Maintain gear and equipment.
  • Pre-season scouting and trail maintenance.
  • Assist with implementing staff training for counsellors.
  • Review logistics and risk management with Senior Camp Staff for all out trips.
  • Assist with set up/take down/cleaning of all programming and meals.
  • Assist counsellors with groups in dorms as needed.
  • Complete necessary administrative tasks.
Your Skills and Experience
  • Post-secondary education (complete or in progress) in outdoor education, outdoor leadership or equivalent is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities and/or complex medical needs.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent risk management skills.
  • Knowledge of Leave No Trace Principles.
  • Excellent group management techniques.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C.
  • Class 4 Alberta license.
  • Minimum Wilderness First Aid 40hr or willingness to complete prior to employment.
  • Other outdoor certifications considered an asset (ACCT, OCC, Paddle Canada, etc.).
  • Caring, compassionate, patient, and outgoing.
Working Conditions
  • Contract: February 20th – October 29th 2023
  • Onsite in Kananaskis Country near Bragg Creek, AB.
  • 5-6 days a week 8-12hr days
  • Outdoors each day in all kinds of weather
  • Working with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and abilities
