Job Description

Are you looking for a challenging and unique administrative role Do you have a genuine desire to help people Then consider this excellent opportunity to provide clerical, administrative and training services to clients with visual impairments for the Assistive Devices Program with the Ministry of Education.What can I expect to do in this role

  • review, assess and confirm client eligibility for Assistive Devices (AD)
  • provide a wide range of administrative services in support of the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) (i.e. prepare statistical and financial reports, provide support letters, schedule appointments for assessments etc.)
  • provide information on AD vendors, equipment, types of high/low technical software and computer adaptive devices to clients, school boards, agencies, itinerant teachers, etc.
  • monitor financial/budget supports, prepare statements, financial reports and draft budget requests for the AD Program
  • scheduling workshops and arrange for vendors to display/discuss equipment
  • oversee general clerical office duties (i.e. supplies, inventory etc)
How do I qualifyMandatory
  • Technical Aids Certificate or equivalent training and experience, Grade 1 and 2 Braille.
Administrative Knowledge and Skills:
  • You have knowledge of administrative procedures, directive and guidelines related to budgeting, expense claims, and purchasing.
  • You have ability to interpret and apply legislation and acts (i.e. Workplace Discrimination and Harassment Prevention policy (WDHP), Freedom of Information and Protection from Privacy Act (FIPPA) etc.
Data Management to maintain an efficient filing and management system of clients confidential files and information.Technical Knowledge and Skills:
  • You have knowledge of assistive/adaptive devices for visual impairment.
  • You have knowledge of Assistive Devices Program and the ability to apply established administrative procedures and guidelines to support the ADP.
Analytical and Reasoning Skills
  • You have well developed analytical and reasoning skills to determine what matters are urgent and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • You have judgement and evaluative skills to assess client eligibility for Assistive Devices.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
  • You have communication skills to consult with internal and external vendors and recommend device options for clients.
  • You have written communication skills to prepare, proofread/edit support letters and statistical reports to the Ministry of Health and other external vendors.
Computer and Math skills:
  • You have proven computer skills including programmable word processing skills to compose reports, emails and prepare financial/budget reports.
  • You have knowledge of office software programs (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook etc.) to prepare letters, reports, respond to inquiries and work with vendors.
  • You have mathematical skills to prepare outcome statements, financial reports and drafting budget requests for the AD program.
