“We are looking to hire an on call-supply General Maintenance Assistant for the Brantford Campus to provide maintenance and groundskeeping support at the W. Ross Macdonald School.If you are a jack of all trades with the ability to learn new things in a short period of time, then consider this challenging opportunity with the Ministry of Educations Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch, where you will be responsible for maintaining the facilities and equipment.What can I expect to do in this roleYou will:

• Provide general preventative maintenance and repairs to buildings, grounds, vehicles, and equipment.
• Perform general plumbing, electrical and general facility maintenance.
• Provide general repairs to heating, ventilation, and fire systems.
• Provide general repairs to locks, valves, pumps, repair of windows, flooring, minor painting, and general touch-up work to furniture.
• Maintain the efficient mechanical operation of the swimming pool.
• Assist contract and government services tradespersons.
• Assist with implementation of work plan for summer students.
• Work on call hours as required.

How do I qualifyTechnical skills:

• You have demonstrated experience and general working knowledge of trades such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, HVAC systems, and electrical to assist with semi-skilled general maintenance.
• You can determine proper methods and materials required for performing installation, replacement, repair, preventative maintenance, and construction work at the facility
• You have good mechanical aptitude and experience performing routine general maintenance inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs of electrical, plumbing, small engines, appliances, furniture, fittings, and electromechanical systems.
• You know and have experience operating various grounds maintenance equipment such as skid steer loader, tractors, and riding lawn mowers.
• You can maintain efficient operation of swimming pool and related equipment.
• You have the ability to use hand tools and power equipment.
• You have experience maintaining work orders and preventative maintenance logs.

Other skills:

• You possess good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• You are organized and can demonstrate good time management, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• You know the Occupational Health and Safety guidelines.
• You can move and set up furniture and equipment.
• You can read and follow simple drawings, blueprints, work specifications, including written and verbal directions.
