Job Description

The W. Ross Macdonald School for the Blind in the Ministry of Education, Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch is seeking interested individuals to oversee a series of weekend instructional programs that provide exposure to elements of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) to students who are blind or visually impaired. The Short Term Program focuses on a variety of topics aimed at the development of social, emotional, recreational and living skills.Come and apply to the position of Short Term Placement Counsellor if you are looking for an exciting and unique opportunity to work with students in a unique social and recreational setting.   • Provide overnight supervision and care to program participants in student lodging settings.
  • Provide care to meet the program participants physical, safety and emotional needs.
  • Monitor participants throughout the night.
  • Assist with morning duties.
How do I qualifyMandatory
  • Community college certificate and/or equivalent training, education and working experience in a child related field.
  • Current First Aid, CPR and Crisis Prevention Intervention training and/or Behaviour Management Systems training or equivalent.
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate social, life skills and recreational activities for students who are blind or visually impaired.
  • Knowledge of visual impairments, training, theories and methodologies to provide instruction and implement programs for blind and visually impaired students.
  • Knowledge of technological devices to assist blind and visually impaired students.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines and practices.
  • Demonstrated planning, judgement and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students and team members.
