Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:Reporting to the Commodity Sales Manager, the Trader is responsible for actively securing optimal sales volumes, maintaining and growing customer relationships, and identifying new business opportunities. They manage the full sales cycle, provide market intelligence, and ensure seamless execution of sales strategies. Additionally, they act as a brand ambassador, representing the company at trade shows and industry meetings.WHY WORK AT CONESTOGA MEATS

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS / ROLES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Actively solicit and secure optimal sales volumes weekly based on confirmed availability and specific market offerings
  • Act as a Conestoga Meats brand ambassador globally
  • Maintain and grow existing customer relationships and business portfolio
  • Identify, target and nurture new customer leads and opportunities to expand and optimize customer portfolio and overall results
  • Manage and oversee all aspects of the full sales cycle from offer to payment
  • Point person to facilitate any required problem solving associated with secured loads (i.e., logistic, pre or post payment requirements, accounts payable issues, customer complaints, etc.
  • Review customer/market performance monthly for trends, growth/lost business, and upsell opportunities
  • Assess current commodity portfolio and provide recommendation for long-term strategy options to best optimize Conestoga Meats #39; business mix to support future business growth potential
  • Identifying export business opportunities that are aligned with Conestoga Meats #39; current and future processing capabilities
  • Provide ongoing real-time pertinent industry, customer, and competitive pricing intel to the Conestoga Meats #39; Sales Team to support ongoing pricing decisions
  • Develop a robust understanding of Conestoga Meats #39; current export portfolio to ensure new business opportunities are synergistic with current and projected key value-added business
  • Proactively monitor daily volume and inventories versus forecast and assist in the facilitation and disposition of surplus products
  • Strong understanding of product specifications and processes, serving as a brand ambassador for existing and new products
  • Partner with sales teams to ensure seamless execution of selling and category optimization
  • Confidently conduct customer tours in all areas of the plant
  • Research and gather industry market intel from internal experts and external sources; building a network, and reviewing industry newsletters/market reports
  • Represent Conestoga Meats at relative trade shows and industry meetings as required
  • Facilitate, supervise, and support any preapproved customer visits or required entertainment
  • Adheres to all Conestoga Meats policies and business code of ethics
Personal Development
  • Attend company required training
  • Remain current with technical knowledge in areas of responsibility
  • Attend regular 1:1 coaching/update sessions
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 2-3 years of sales experience
  • Post-secondary education in a related field
  • Experience working in the protein/disassembly industry preferred
  • Experience with meat export and/or import regulatory compliance and with international business transactions and shipping documents, or related experience an asset
  • Bilingual in a second language an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong understanding of customer and market dynamics
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects at the same time with limited supervision, excellent planning, time management and decision-making skills
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Strong business acumen, ability to think strategically and to analyze market trends
