Job Description

Your Opportunity:The Village of Breton is located in west central Alberta, near Drayton Valley and is within easy driving distance of Red Deer, Leduc, Wetaskiwin and Edmonton. It is a tight-knit community with a strong emphasis on family and community activities. At the lab, located inside the Breton Continuing Care Centere, you will be responsible for performing outpatient lab collections and long term care departments providing service for the community and surrounding area. This is a working level position utilizing technical skills and judgment performing a diverse range of procedures within the scope of practice of a Medical Laboratory Assistant I (MLA). Qualified MLAs will be considered for this position. Applicants must be able to work independently and perform all aspects within the scope of practice of an MLA including all specimen procurement and blood collection procedures as well as cardiology.Description:As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.Additional Required Qualifications:Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant training program including a microscopic urinalysis component. Equivalencies may be considered. Cardiology training and experience including ECG’s and Holter Monitors. All blood collection procedures including: venipuncture, micro-punctures, blood culture collection as well as collections on all patient ages including newborns, pediatrics and geriatrics.Preferred Qualifications:Recent experience performing macroscopic and microscopic urinalysis testing. 2 years recent experience working as a Medical Laboratory Assistant. Recent experience with MUSE and Cardioday applications. Current registration with CSMLS. Experience using Meditech LIS/Epic Connect Care. Ability to communicate effectively in English. Good organizational skills and ability to assume responsibility. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently and promote teamwork.Quick Apply
