Job Description

Overview:Laboratory Technician - SIL Industrial Minerals (Bruderheim, AB)SIL Industrial Minerals is one of Canada’s largest supplier of frac sand, with over 45 years’ experience as a sand supplier. Headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, Sil’s projects extend across the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.Sil Industrial Minerals is seeking a competent Laboratory Technician. The Laboratory Technician will support the production team in ensuring production efficiency and quality goals are met. The role primarily focuses on the testing of products in accordance with Sil’s quality management system (QMS) at Sil’s processing plant in Lamont County.The successful candidate will have understanding and interest in:

  • Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015)
  • Aggregate and/or proppant testing according to API, CSA, and ASTM standards
  • Conducting maintenance of laboratory equipment and calibrating the testing equipment as necessary
Qualifications:The following qualifications are considered an asset:
  • Experience in a processing facility – either mine or plant
  • Civil Engineering Technologist Diploma, Geological Technology Diploma Civil or Geotechnical Engineering Degree
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or eligible to be certified with the Association of Science & Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET), Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist of Alberta (APEGA) or similar Designation/Association
  • Field and laboratory experience in inspection and testing of construction materials
  • Detail oriented with strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of appropriate testing standards
  • Ability to operate field instruments and equipment
  • Strong communication skill (both verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office software
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers license
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, team environment
