We’re now looking for someone who can help us increase our impact by using their scientific expertise to make our products available to more customers around the world.That’s where you come in!As our new Applications Specialist for Lab Automation youll be taking on a dynamic role that will require flexibility, creativity, and initiative.The Applications Specialist conceptualizes automation systems for Laboratory Automation’s customers using the latest Thermo Scientific and 3rd party products. You will be engaging with customers in conversations to understand the application and technical automation requirements. You will act as a liaison between the technical groups in the business (Marketing, Integration, Software, Engineering, R&D) and the Global Sales channels. You will generate end user system layouts, proposal content, quotations, throughput analysis, and any supporting documentation required to satisfy the customer’s requirements.The primary responsibilities of the role include:Work with the Sales/Marketing teams and customers to understand requirements and develop solutions for customer automation projects

  • Prepare system layouts and quotations ensuring technical accuracy
  • Prepare cost/margin estimations
  • Prepare other accompanying documentation, such as throughput analysis, system proposal documents, workflow documents, reach analysis, etc.
Provide knowledge leadership in automation of scientific workflows and assays
  • Use your technical expertise to demonstrate Thermo Scientific Lab Automation product lines and how they address key workflows for customers and internal/external partners
  • Participate in the development and testing of new products and identifying potential target markets
  • Provide advice and support to management on applications and technical issues
  • Attend and/or support relevant trade shows and meetings for demand-generation and insight
  • Share relevant journals and publications to keep current with developments, and to build our tribal knowledge
Work with our Operations team to transition successful projects, ensure that they meet expectations and deliver the scientific results the customer expects:
  • Attend “Kick off” and “Close-out” project meetings to handoff and capture feedback on purchased systems
  • Work with Integration team members to ensure customer requirements are clearly understood
  • Raise common customer issues/concerns and possible solutions to product managers and engineering team
Working with usThis is a full-time position, and the hours are from Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm. The role is based out of our Burlington office, with some flexibility of working from home. On rare occasions, there will be travel for sales meetings or product shows; to meet with our partners and customers.We’re a small, close-knit group, so you’ll be making a huge impact from the beginning.   • Scientific work experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or an advanced, scientific degree (Master’s degree or higher) and work experience
  • Demonstrate Thermo Fisher Scientific values – Integrity, Intensity, Innovation and Involvement
  • Detailed applications knowledge and experience in one or more of these research areas: Chromatography, Mass Spec, Synthetic Biology, NGS, CRISPR, Molecular Diagnostics, Cell Culture, Biobanking, Antibody/T-Cell Screening
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to establish and manage relationships with sales representatives, customers, and vendors
  • A keen understanding of laboratory instrumentation, with some hands-on experience
  • Technical documentation and writing skills
  • Valid driver’s license and valid passport with ability to undertake global travel, if required
Preferred:
  • Experience working with lab automation, robotics or liquid handling systems
  • Detailed understanding of technical issues related to scientific assays, systems integration and/or software development
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (i.e. Salesforce, SAP, Siebel, others)
