Location: 3245 Mainway, Burlington, Ontario L7M 1A6 CanadaThis position will require you to inspect vehicles, write and sign safety certificates!PRIMARY FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Shop Manager or Shop Supervisor, perform the less complex repair and preventive maintenance (PM) required for U-Haul trucks. Perform Annual Safety Inspections and repairs according to established provincial and shop guidelines for the repair shop facility. Use Electronic Checklists to ensure inspections are performed in the exact order indicated on the checklists, etc. Perform only authorized operations in PM bays. Note: Essential duties are not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.JOB KNOWLEDGE: Position requires Trade certification (310T and 310S)and previous experience and general automotive repair knowledge to:1. Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle.2. Perform repairs and do preventive maintenance (PM5, PM15 & PM30 – US or PM8, PM25 & PM50 - Canada) – Annual Safety Inspections according to established Provincial and U-Haul shop guidelines and to sign Safety Certificates.3. Understand the mechanics of vehicle parts and their function4. Complete repair campaign modifications on U-Haul trucksTOOLS/SKILLS/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Reading & comprehension of technical manuals & newsletters; interpreting diagnostic computerized data; explaining technical information; parts ordering and inventory; instructing less experienced personnel. Use basic hand/power tools, wrenches, diagnostic scanner, scope and volt amp testers, etc. Ability to follow direction and in sequential order according to written checklists.WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts or machines, fumes or irritant chemicals. May be required to use protective clothing, or gear such as masks, goggles, gloves or shields.Note: The persons assigned to this job are subject to perform their tasks safely in accordance with established procedures and operating philosophy, in regards to all Health and Safety standards.OTHER: Participation to enhance or upgrade existing mechanical/technical skills through “JET†program (Joint Efforts in Training) is strongly encouraged.Position requires a valid driver’s license and that the individual maintains a good driving record to operate motor vehicles with both types of transmission (automatic or standard). Adhere to all local vehicular regulations while driving.Position requires the ability to maintain good housekeeping practices in the work area and comply with all safety rules and procedures. It is mandatory that all accidents and injuries be reported immediately to supervisor.Must maintain just-in-time production methods, along with total quality control at the source of the work being performed.Must read company publications such as “U-Haul Newsâ€, U-Haul Tech newsletters, and other publications provided by supervisor to understand U-Haul’s Primary Service Objective (to provide better and better product and service to more and more people at a lower and lower cost.)Perform other related duties as required or assigned including to assist in the recovery of lost or stolenU-Haul property and equipment.
