For more information, visit www.josephbranthospital.ca.RESPONSIBILITIES:The clerks responsibilities involve coordinating the orderly flow of patients and visitors in and out of the Department, reception and clerical activities within the Department and the dissemination and co-ordination of general information.- Answer phone calls - relay messages, liaise between staff, physicians and public

• Make appointments for diagnostic test, dispatch the corresponding requisitions and specimens to appropriate Departments and arrange patient escort if necessary
• Transcribe physicians orders, fax med orders to pharmacy and order enter all other orders
• Update patient room list and board daily, complete diet list and fax to Dietary
• Write daily assignment sheet for next 24 hours under the direction of the Nurse Manager/Team Leader
• Completion of workload tabulations and prepare pay sheets
• Answer family questions and accompany visitors to patients bedside
• Order supplies and stock charts and cupboards, file old sheets in charts

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Medical Terminology or Administration post-secondary education or equivalent knowledge gained through past experience required

- Excellent computer skills required with a demonstrated typing speed of 40 - 50 wpm

• Ability to transcribe orders is required
• An excellent telephone manner required.
• Demonstrated excellent communication skills
• Excellent command of the English language (written and verbal)
• Strong organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to prioritize in a fast paced environment
• Demonstrated reliable attendance, punctuality, availability and performance required
• Demonstrated commitment to quality and patient safety, considers safety of self and co-workers
