Job Description

We are a Burlington-based Transportation company looking for a Dispatch/Operations Supervisor to run our daily operations. The Dispatch Supervisor is in control of the day shift dispatch department and oversees all day-to-day operations from order confirmation and load planning to resolving any driver/customer issues that arise. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct and supervise the activities of staff in relation to transport operations within the company on duties like dispatching and tracking/monitoring of transportation vehicles.
  • Handle and resolve any issues that arise during the operations and minimize customer delays.
  • Throughout the shift, continually review the list of loads and their respective points of origin, destination, pick-up, and delivery time.
  • Plan personnel and equipment according to fairness, proximity (minimizing empty miles), and equipment type required for loads as well as hours of service and maximizing utilization.
  • Develop important indicators that measure and show the effectiveness of the company’s transportation operations.
  • Conduct necessary investigation(s) to determine the cause of problems like accidents (if any arise) and to set up safety measures to avoid the recurrence of such issues.
  • Maintain an open dialogue with other unit managers so as to organize activities that will enhance the company’s general performance.
  • Take charge of investigations that look into customer complaints with regard to product delivery and other transportation-associated issues.
Requirements:
  • Must possess good communication skills, with emphasis on the ability to effectively produce and distribute information across different units within and outside the firm.
  • Must be flexible with working schedule. May require working on the weekend from time to time.
  • Good leadership qualities are of utmost importance.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and also to lead a team when the opportunity arises.
  • Knowledgeable about the areas of the GTA and major highways.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Good time management abilities.
  • Good negotiation skills and excellent decision-making ability.
  • Good customer service skills so as to be able to maintain/retain existing customers.
  • Knowledge of the procedures and modes of transportation for moving goods.
  • Knowledge of basic customer service procedures.
  • 1+ years of working experience in a similar role or capacity.
