Job Description

The Early Years Group Support will be responsible for facilitating activities for the children in care for the duration of the scheduled parent/caregiver group/ workshop. The Childminder will deliver age-appropriate activities for children to encourage adult-child engagement.The Early Years Group Support will provide parents/caregivers an opportunity to have meaningful engagement in group and workshop activities while minding children in their care during in-person group activities located on-site, in accordance with requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014. Please note that this is a casual, contract position, working 2-4 hours per week, with a planned end date of December 30th, 2022.RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate the development of activities and care for children between the ages birth months to six years while parents attend on-site workshops or groups
  • Provide a physically safe and emotionally supportive environment showing sensitivity to the individuals needs of children in all aspects of development
  • Promote positive interactions and behaviour guidance and direction with the ongoing supervision of the site, children and routine activities.
  • Engage each child individually, welcoming them to group, making every effort to greet every parent /caregiver
  • Deliver mindful activity planning that is welcoming to children’s mental health and well-being, sensitive to the culture linguistic and diversity of the community
  • Know where each child is in your care at all times by doing regular attendance verification checks during activities, and at all transition times.
  • Operationalize client safety through and adhering to established policies and guidelines that ensure consistency in the delivery of quality and safe care and by identifying and reporting any client safety incidents
  • Abide by the specific requirements of Section 28 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as any further health and safety responsibility as outlined in the agency policy and procedure documents
  • Other duties as may be reasonably assigned
QUALIFICATIONSEducation
  • Enrolled in continuing education with a focus on early years, infant and children’s mental health, and child and youth studies or equivalent an asset
  • Knowledge and understanding of early years child development an asset
Experience
  • Previous work experience with children six years and under, is considered an asset
Skills
  • Ability to establish relationships with children and their families that demonstrate self-awareness and appropriate professional boundaries
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team
  • Maintain professionalism when working with the community, children and their family’s
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sound decision making and problem-solving skills
Additional Requirements
  • Available to work evenings, weekends, and flexible hours
  • Ability to work in various ROCK and EarlyON locations including, but not limited to outdoor, and other community sites
  • Relief coverage may be required during vacation, sick and training absenteeism
  • Provide 24 hours advance notice of absence
  • Current (within 3 months) criminal reference check with vulnerable sector search
  • Access to reliable transportation
