Job Description

Reach Out Centre for Kids (ROCK) is the lead child and youth mental health agency for the Region of Halton. ROCK is committed to providing inclusive, people-centred care that relies on an inter-professional approach in the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents, and families (our ‘clients’). With over 40 years of service, we remain a progressive organization dedicated to building strong people, strong families and strong communities.Reporting to the Program Manager of Early Years, the EarlyON Program Assistant will work collaboratively with EarlyON Educators, Early Years Family & Caregiver Supports and our ROCKHub community spaces. This position will support and at times co-facilitate EarlyON programs for children, ages birth to six, to ensure seamless services.Please note that this is a full-time contract working 35 hours per week, ending December 30th, 2022.RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure and maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment at all EarlyON sites.
  • Work collaboratively with the RECE to design and maintain a healthy and safe learning environment aligned with the Early Years “How Does Learning Happen” document.
  • Relief coverage during vacation, sick and training absenteeism.
  • Engage with parents/s and caregivers as their children play and learn while modeling current pedagogical practices and positive guidance strategies.
  • Work in collaboration with the ROCK 0-6 Services and community professionals and partners for in-person and virtual programming and resources sharing
  • Conduct research, gathering materials to support groups offered to parents, caregivers and educators, that enhance their knowledge of infant and child mental health and well-being.
  • Build parent capacity and empower parents and caregivers as advocates for their children in a group-based setting with the implementation of prevention resources.
  • Co-facilitate group-based workshops as needed and programs with EarlyON team that are welcoming and focus on infant and children’s mental health and well-being.
  • Collaborate in group and workshop planning that is sensitive to the culture, linguistic and diversity of the community.
  • Engage in the planning and implementation of community engagement opportunities for special events promoting ROCKHub programs and services for the community.
  • Operationalize client safety through and adhering to established policies and guidelines that ensure consistency in the delivery of quality and safe care and by identifying and reporting any client safety incidents.
  • Abide by the specific requirements of Section 28 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as any further health and safety responsibility as outlined in the agency policy and procedure documents.
  • Other duties as may be reasonably assigned.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation:
  • Enrolled in continuing education with a focus on early years, community development, mental health, child and youth studies or equivalent.
Experience:
  • Previous work experience with children 6 years and under an asset
  • Knowledge and understanding of early years child development an asset
Skills:
  • Ability to work in all environments including, but not limited to; outdoor, virtual and other community sites.
  • Ability to establish relationships with clients that demonstrates self-awareness and appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound decision making and problem-solving skills.
Other Requirements:
  • Proficient in the use of technology which includes delivering services and communicating and from virtual platforms, i.e., MS Teams and Zoom.
  • Available to evenings, weekends, and work flexible hours for client and group availability.
  • Current (within 3 months) criminal reference check with vulnerable sector search.
