Job Description

As a new member of the Remanufacturing Team, tthe Production Planner assumes responsibility for the planning and coordination of all activities relating to component repair and remanufacturing within the component facility. This includes the development and management of disassembly and production schedules for components, as well as the implementation of planning strategies to ensure the on-going operational efficiency of the facility. This position requires close coordination and teamwork with the Parts Department and Warehouse.Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage operation and work order planning and communicate schedules to all internal work centres and sub-contractors
  • Setup and analyse capacity planning for key internal work centres to proactively manage bottlenecks and underutilized resources
· Develop planning scenarios based on component forecast variance, unplanned demands, missing parts, under capacity and other confounding factors · Analyse existing and required resources (i.e. tooling and equipment, skilled labour, etc.) based on long-term component forecasts and/or the introduction of new components · Proactively identify and manage unavailable parts (new and refurbished) before releasing component and piece part work orders for production · Oversee the preparation of all relevant shop floor documentation, including production orders, operation notes, technical drawings, quality procedures, etc. for components to be repaired and remanufactured · Oversee distribution of relevant shop floor documentation to internal work centres and external sub-contractors
  • Coordinate and oversee the daily scheduling of technicians to ensure that the workflow is adequately assigned and dispersed to meet the required timelines
· Oversee the timely collection and processing of completed work orders, operation notes and timesheets to ensure accurate work order planning, capacity and inventory levels in the ERP system · Oversee the collection and archiving of completed quality documentation to ensure traceability and accountability for finished piece parts and components
  • Setup and validate planning related master data in the ERP system for components and piece parts processed internally and/or externally by sub-contractors
  • Conduct periodic time measurements of remanufacturing activities in order to validate and adjust standard operation set-up and run times used for planning
  • Conduct regular planning meetings with shop floor department to discuss current and short term planning, capacity constraints, late and urgent work orders, unavailable parts, and other planning related issues
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports for management summarizing component volumes, work centre activity and productivity, work in progress levels, missing parts, order timeliness, and other planning related KPIs
  • Develop a team dedicated to supporting component repair and remanufacture planning activities
Competencies
  • Post Secondary technical designation required, Mechanical Engineering Degree strongly preferred
  • Entry level experience working with the planning and/or manufacturing modules of a corporate ERP system, bills of material, production routings and materials requirements planning
  • Strong ability to analyze planning data
  • Ability to develop strategies improving operational efficiency and planning accuracy of component remanufacture and repair activities
  • Knowledge of material resource planning (MRP) and inventory control considered a strong asset
  • Demonstrated high level of computer skills (MS Office applications or other)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross functionally
