Job Description

DescriptionPosition OverviewReporting to the Manager of By-law Enforcement, this position is accountable for the day-to-day operation of the By-law Enforcement Team (currently a team of 10) responsible for the administration, interpretation and enforcement of municipal by-laws and relevant provincial statues.ResponsibilitiesDuties include:

  • Supervise the daily operation, workload distribution and activities of a team of 10 multi-disciplined By-law Enforcement Officers and relevant support staff ensuring adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Review performance statistics strategically to highlight emerging issues and make recommendations related to resources, polices and procedures and continuous improvement measures.
  • Research and coordinate the preparation of evidence required for court proceedings, providing advice to by-law officers and liaising with city legal counsel to ensure quality and timeliness of submissions.
  • Correspond with the public, members of Council, other departments and agencies regarding by-law inquiries and enforcement procedures.
  • Research and prepare by-laws, legal documents, memorandums, correspondence and reports to Council as required.
RequirementsAs the successful applicant you have 2 - 3 years of supervisory experience and hold a college diploma or university degree in Law and Security, Police Foundations, Public Administration, Human Resources or another relevant field. You are a strategic thinker with a commitment to continuous improvement along with demonstrated leadership ability to lead and empower a team of By-law Enforcement Officers. You have an ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external partners, make sound recommendations and navigate competing priorities successfully. Effective communication skills are essential. Experience in a municipal enforcement environment is preferred.
