Job Description

Community Support Workers work with people to pursue activities in the community based on individual interests, gifts and defined goals. This role supports people to become active members of the community discovering and engaging with places of belonging. Inclusive in this role are the following:

  • Ensuring that individuals are connected to friends and family.
  • Providing individuals with the opportunity to make meaningful choices
  • Encouraging and recognizing individuals contributions
  • Ensuring that individuals are safe and to promote their health and well-being
  • A key component may be to assist individuals gaining knowledge and skills to enhance their independence and/or ability to participate in their community. The position enhances the quality of life for people. The position functions as part of a team.
POSITION: Regular PT Community Support Worker COSC FloatLOCATION: Burnaby/Tri-CitiesSALARY: Step 1-$21.63, Step 2- $22.68, Step 3 - $23.90, Step 4 - $25.19HOURS: 30.0 hours/week Schedule: 8:00AM-3:00PM flexKnowledge & Skills
  • Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and ability to promote community integration in active settings
  • The ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently is essential
  • Experience and specialized training related to autism and/or challenging behaviours is an asset
  • Knowledge and ability to use alternative communication systems would be an asset
  • Knowledge of principles of Person Centered Thinking and Planning preferred
  • Working knowledge of computers/mobile apps is necessary
Qualifications for this position include, Graduation from a Community College with an appropriate diploma or certificate in Human Services OR an equivalent of education and experience. Current First Aid & CPR, TB screening, and a valid unrestricted BC Class 5 Drivers License.A job requirement for this position is complete and up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination.This position is open to all Candidates and requires union membership.
