Job Description

Start Date: Winter 2023 (January)Work Terms: 8 months ideally, 4 months consideredABOUT THE COMPANYConeTec is an international full-service geo-environmental and geotechnical site characterization contractor. Adara Systems Ltd. as part of ConeTec Group, is a Burnaby, BC based electronics instrumentation manufacturing firm supplying specialized down-hole probes and sensors to the geotechnical site investigation industry in Canada and the U.S. Adara designs and manufactures instruments and control systems to measure strain, stress, acceleration, inclination, temperature, and other geophysical properties. Our success is a direct result of the people who work here.SCOPE OF POSITIONThe Firmware Development Co-op will be responsible for developing and testing codes for embedded systems. The Co-op student will gain experience in object-orientated programming through all parts of development including reporting, testing and documentation throughout the co-op term.ROLES, RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONSFirmware Development

  • Develop and test codes for embedded systems.
  • Take part in all steps of the programming stage through reporting, testing and documentation.
  • Working closely with other engineers, production staff and software developers.
Health & Safety
  • Identify with and respect ConeTec’s safety culture, first and foremost.
  • Ensure proper preparation and knowledge of all necessary safe operating procedures before beginning any job.
  • Report any safety-related incidents, infractions, or near misses to the Manager and the HSE Officer immediately.
  • Know and follow the incident reporting protocol at all times.
Other General Responsibilities
  • Use knowledge to contribute to the design and development process in a leadership role.
  • Communicate with the Manager as to any equipment problems or needs, as well as any field observations that might be of use.
  • Recognize problems in all areas and step up in a leadership role as required.
  • Contribute to and promote a respectful work environment and participate in effective communication.
  • Effective collaboration with others inside and outside the department.
  • Work to upgrade their skills on an ongoing basis.
  • Working closely with other engineers, production staff and software developers
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREDEducation Requirements
  • Currently enrolled at a public post-secondary institution in a relevant diploma or degree program.
Experience Requirements
  • Experience in designing and debugging embedded systems
  • Experience with C/C++ and knowledge of object-oriented concepts
  • Experience in reading and understanding electrical schematic diagrams
  • Experience with scripting languages like Python an asset
  • Experience with real-time operating systems and multi-threaded applications for embedded systems an asset
  • Experience with communication interfaces an asset
  • Understanding of Cortex-M microcontrollers an asset
Soft Skill Requirements
  • Ability to stay detail-oriented with all tasks and work.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematic diagrams
  • Ability to effectively read through component datasheets
  • Must possess strong work ethic and represent the company in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Must be responsible and work well independently or in a team setting with minimal supervision.
  • Must enjoy performing a wide variety of duties and be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
