Job Description

Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the Manager or Support Services Supervisor, performs duties such as serving meals and delivery and retrieval of food carts. Sets up and serves lunch to staff, volunteers and visitors, receiving cash and/or meal tickets for items purchased. Prepares and combines food and beverage ingredients by procedures such as blending and slicing. Performs cleaning duties related to the maintenance of the food preparation areas and dish room.Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares salads, sandwiches, and beverages as assigned. Assists in food preparation such as food panning, portioning, and food storage as needed.
  • Prepares the dining area for meals and snacks by performing such duties as ensuring dining areas are clean and supplies of food are well stocked.
  • Performs meal assembly with standardized portion size needed for each food group and plates food items accordingly to achieve an appealing presentation.
  • Removes used plates/bowls between courses and at the end of the meal. Checks for items not consumed on the food cart and provides relevant meal feedback to cooks after service.
  • Delivers and retrieves hot/cold food carts and kitchenware wagons throughout the center.
  • Cleans food carts, pots, pans, dishes, kitchen equipment, floors in the kitchen area, walk-in refrigerators and freezers, shelving, and carts in the kitchen area. Maintains cleanliness of the area.
  • Collects all garbage in the kitchen and empty milk/food containers from units. Disposes and recycles items by categories at the Lower Services Loading Dock.
  • Sets up and serves meals to staff, volunteers and visitors, receiving meal tickets for items purchased.
  • Provides job training, and kitchen and unit work stations orientation to new hires.
  • Actively promotes a culture of resident safety adhering to established safety policies, standards, and procedures including emergency procedures.
  • Reports hazards, unusual occurrences, accidents, and unsafe situations to immediate supervisor or designate.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Safety Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to safety policies in the work environment.
  • Reports all incidents and near misses. Reports are to be made in writing.
  • Report all concerns related to resident behaviors; even if no incident/injury occurs. Reports are to be made in writing.
  • Follow safe work procedures and act safely in the workplace at all times.
  • Actively participate in all training provided to you for your safety.
Qualifications:Education, Training, and Experience:
  • Food Safety Level 1.
  • One (1) years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Completion of Grade 10.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
