Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s Professional Practice, Standards and Development Department is hiring an engineering/geoscience student on contract for four months starting in May 2025. Reporting to the Manager, Climate Change and Sustainability Initiatives, this position will provide strategic support for the development of a sustainability program to be administered to over 5000 firm registrants located throughout BC. The intern will work closely with the Climate Strategist and other Engineers and Geoscientists BC staff, registrants, and partners to support the development of the program through engagement and consultation. The intern position would also provide support to a Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) funded project, to develop a course advancing a Climate Resiliency Training Program for Building Sector Professionals, in collaboration with the Climate Risk Institute (CRI). This position will also provide support to the preparation and delivery of Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s climate change-related professional practice resources and continuing education events.The intern hired through this opportunity would participate in the Climate Change and Sustainability Advisory Group meetings, and the CRI Course Steering Committee, and benefit from learning about steering complex projects and initiatives through collective decision-making. The intern will work with the staff in organizing events and various engagement sessions in relation to this project. The intern will work in a hybrid work environment and will be exposed to the regulatory functions carried out by Engineers and Geoscientists BC. The intern will be required to engage in creative and critical thinking, technical analysis, and strategic problem-solving. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:The Intern, Program Development (Climate and Sustainability) will assist the Manager, Climate Change and Sustainability Initiatives and the Climate Strategist to:

• Build the business case for the sustainability-related program and integrate it into Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s climate strategy.
• Form a working group of registrant firms to co-develop program components.
• Develop and refine tools, resources, and training materials for firms to implement sustainability practices.
• Engage with staff internally, registrants, and the public, in relation to the development of the program.
• Support consultants and advisory groups in program development.
• Conduct research and ensure alignment with professional practice guidelines.
• Assist with engagement activities, including with registrant firms, Indigenous leaders, and academics.
• Draft materials, including training resources and program documents.
• Work on other duties as assigned by the Manager, Climate Change and Sustainability Initiatives.

Further assignments will be provided to work on other areas of the Climate Change Strategy Development and in support of the Intern’s career goals. WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR:

• 3rd or 4th-year student in a four-year college or university engineering or geoscience degree program from UBC, UNBC, UVic or SFU;
• Eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC upon graduation;
• Preference will be given to candidates who have an understanding of climate science and sustainability as it relates to the practice of professional engineering and professional geoscience.

This role offers a competitive compensation and benefits program including a salary of $22/hour. For contract employees on a short-term contract, we offer:

• 8% additional pay in lieu of benefits.
• 10 vacation days per annum (pro-rated based on the length of contract).
• A flex day program offering additional paid days off (usually alternating Fridays) as a result of a compressed work week.
• A hybrid work model with an assigned schedule confirming days worked remotely and days worked in-office. This role will be required to work in-office a minimum of 2 days per week during regular business operations.
• The required tools, equipment, and technology for employees to work remotely are provided.

• Free parking is available at the office. Transit reimbursement is offered to employees who take transit to work; we are centrally located near bus and Skytrain stops.
