Job Description

Union/Affiliation:C.U.P.E. Local 3338Pay range:$1551.58 To $1758.47 Bi-WeeklySFU Department Descr:PsychologyPosition Grade:5# of openings:1Biweekly Hours:70Provides administrative support to the Department of Psychology and the Cognitive Science Program by: providing front line client services; typing, proofreading, and editing letters, reports, forms, and other general correspondence; maintaining databases; maintaining departmental information (e.g., directories, schedules, phone lists, mail/email lists, etc.); maintaining departmental office supplies; processing daily mail; and maintaining the general office area and office equipment. Assists with the administration of meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars, and special events by booking rooms; arranging catering; and coordinating facilities requests. Provides general clerical support by: maintaining the departmental website; coordinating advertising for Psychology colloquiums, workshops, and thesis defences; assisting the departmental Chairs Secretary with the preparation of the annual TPC (Tenure and Promotion Committee) process and faculty searches; and assisting the graduate Program Assistant with the graduate application process.Qualifications:High School Graduation and training of moderate duration (equivalent to one semester) in word processing and database applications.

  • 2 years of related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.
  • 50 wpm keyboarding with high degree of accuracy.
  • Good knowledge of standard office procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Good analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Good proofreading and editing skills.
  • Ability to use word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications (e.g., Word, Access, Excel) at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to use web browsers and email applications (e.g., Explorer/Firefox, SFU Connect/Outlook).
  • Ability to use web editing applications (e.g., HTML, Dreamweaver, AEM, eMoe) and document publishing applications (e.g., Adobe Acrobat).
  • Ability to use enterprise level information systems (e.g., PeopleSoft/SIMS).
  • Ability to perform online searches for information (i.e. customs declarations/regulations).
  • Ability to maintain accurate records with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to handle confidential material with discretion.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 kg.
