Job Description

BCIT’s School of Health Sciences Medical Laboratory Science Department is seeking a temporary, part-time (0.2 FTE) Technical Staff II to provide technical services related to the preparation of student laboratories.Duties & ResponsibilitiesDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the direction of the program, perform duties that will assist in the preparation for instructional process, including but limited to:
  • Prepares, assembles and operates apparatus and equipment for practical application in laboratory work
  • Maintain the program’s lab coat/gown inventory and coordinate the laundry service
  • Create and maintain electronic records for chemical and reagent inventory
  • Discard chemicals per regulatory procedures
  • May assist in the preparation of audio-visual materials, and equipment
  • May assist in instructing students in the use of laboratory equipment
  • Attends department meetings for discussion on laboratory
  • Performs other such related work as may be assigned
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:
  • Two (2) years’ experience as a Laboratory Assistant, industrial, clinical, field, or related experience, plus one additional year of appropriate post-secondary education;
  • Diploma of Technology or equivalent.

  • Practices effective time management: organizes daily/weekly/monthly workflow; adaptable to changes in workflow; prioritizes activities to meet deadlines
  • Has good problem-solving skills: troubleshoots issues effectively
  • Uses communication technology appropriately and effectively
  • Has experience with word processing and spreadsheets
  • Comfortable working in an unstructured environment
  • Works respectfully and collaboratively with staff
  • Shows a desire and willingness to learn, adapt and be flexible

Salary Range Salary Range: $51,044 to $63,347 per annum.Additional Salary InformationSalary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment.
