Job Description

Local 3338Pay range:$1,652.45 to $1,872.80 bi-weeklySFU Department Descr:Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences - Arts CentralPosition Grade:6# of openings:1Biweekly Hours:70Provides administrative and secretarial support to the Coordinator of Undergraduate Advising, Recruitment and Retention, to the Advisors/Recruiters in Arts Central, and to the Director of Strategic Academic Planning and Student Engagement. Provides support in the coordination and delivery of undergraduate student information and advising services. Provides back-up secretarial support to the Associate Deans for matters pertaining to the Undergraduate Curriculum committee in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS). Supports student engagement initiatives organized by Arts Central. Responds to requests for information primarily dealing with undergraduate students related to student recruitment, academic advising, course registration, and graduation processes and procedures; updates and maintains website, and printed promotional materials; responds to routine queries and conducts preliminary undergraduate program progress reviews; runs regular reports on student performance for Undergraduate advisors; and files all relevant confidential student information.Qualifications:High school graduation and general courses or training of moderate duration (one semester or equivalent) in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications and office procedures. 2 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.

  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication and customer services skills.
  • Ability to use enterprise level information systems (e.g., PeopleSoft SIMS/FAST, or equivalent) at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to use standard office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Filemaker Pro; multilevel databases) at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to use web development applications (e.g. Dreamweaver or HTML) at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to take and transcribe meeting minutes.
  • 55 wpm keyboarding skill with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive material with discretion.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Able to conduct routine and non-routine research.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Good knowledge of office procedures and secretarial practices.
