Job Description

Please Note: This opportunity is in partnership with WorkBC and is for People With Disability (PWD) Status only. This is an opportunity to create meaningful and compelling video content for the BC Wrongful Death Law Reform Society, working on arguably the biggest human rights issue facing the province today.‘In Their Name’ is the campaign of ‘The BC Wrongful Death Law Reform Society’. Our goal is to modernize British Columbia’s antiquated wrongful death legislation, which predates confederation (1846). Under current legislation, the value of a human life is measured only by the deceased’s future lost income, so long as they had dependents. All other provinces, including the Yukon have long since modernized. Only in BC is everyone’s life, except for breadwinners, worthless under the law. No “worth” means no “damages” to pursue in civil court. No “damages”, means no “justice”, and accordingly no accountability for wrongdoers.Key Responsibilities

  • Audit existing visual media content portfolio to assess available content footage
  • Edit existing family story footage into publishable family story videos
  • Cut (1 minute) video clips from existing archival footage to be utilized on social media platforms for content posts and advertising purposes
Required Skills & Experience
  • Background in film editing with the intention to expand their portfolio of experience
  • Experience and/or ability in creating and editing video content for digital channels (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc.)
  • Ambitious, hard working, with excellent communication and creative skills who is excited about helping change the future of the province
  • Results oriented – someone who’s excited by the opportunity of being able to say they, for example, reached over 1,000,000+ British Columbians with the content they produced, which ultimately led to BC’s legislation being modernized. We want you to be able to note the results you achieved in your portfolio of career experience
Eligibility
  • Qualified to receive assistance under the Employment and Assistance for Persons with Disabilities Act
  • Financial support from the Work Experience Opportunities Grant project is exempt as income and assets for the purpose of determining eligibility for assistance. This means that the money you receive from this project will not be deducted from your allowable income under disability assistance.
