The OpportunityReporting to Officer, Tourism & Culture, the Assistant, Downtown Village Placemaking works with internal and external economic development stakeholders to collaboratively organize and implement the Town’s Downtown Village Placemaking Program which is comprised of downtown activations, tourism and economic revitalization initiatives in Caledon’s villages and hamlets. This will include providing administrative support in the planning, organization, and implementation of economic revitalization initiatives such as pop-up markets, entertainment in public spaces, workshops, and farmers markets. This position will be responsible to attend activation dates and assist with logistics, set-up, implementation and take-down of activations in compliance with policies and industry guidelines. This position will collaborate closely with the Downtown Bolton Revitalization Task Force, Downtown Bolton Business Improvement Area (“BIA”), Caledon Chamber of Commerce, and village associations from around Caledon. As the Summer Student, Assistant, Downtown Village Placemaking, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
  • Assist with activations and economic revitalization initiatives, including planning, administration, logistics, promotion, and hands-on delivery of events including but not limited to entertainment in public spaces, pop-up markets, workshops, and farmers markets
  • Identify opportunities for external funding (grants, and corporate sponsorship) to support activations and economic revitalization initiatives
  • Conduct research and trend analysis relating to activations and economic revitalization initiatives and identify strategies for improvement
COVID-19: In consideration of the current pandemic and Public Health orders, the Town of Caledon is providing limited in-person services as Town Hall is open to the public by appointment only. The successful candidate for Assistant, Downtown Village Placemaking (Summer Student) will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).Please note, Summer Student/ Intern positions will be subject to operational needs and dependent upon COVID-19 restrictions.The Ideal CandidateWe are seeking an enthusiastic student who is currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Economic Development, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing/Advertising, Business Administration or a closely related field and returning to school in Fall 2022. Our ideal candidate has a strong understanding of digital communication technologies and tactics to reach target audiences, and an understanding of SEO/SEA.The ideal candidate will have demonstrated customer service excellence that reflects Caledon’s quality standards: accurate, courteous, responsive and easy to navigate. We are seeking an individual with superior organizational skills, a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, and excellent verbal and written skills.Satisfactory proof of schooling or return to school, may be requested.New employees who commence employment on or after November 15, 2021 are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as a condition of employment.
