Job Description

Weishaupt Design Group is currently seeking an experienced full-time Grounds Manager to support the grounds and facilities operations of their Yellow Wood property, located in the Caledon area of Ontario. Reporting to the Executive Director, Yellow Wood, the Grounds Manager will be involved in the day-to-day maintenance and continual development of the 90-acre property 45 minutes north of Toronto.The private residence of Weishaupt Design Group founder, Stephan Weishaupt, Yellow Wood is part of a larger network rooted in the world of design. Grounds ManagerTeam Leadership:
  • Management of groundskeeping team; onboarding, performance management, mentorship, support, etc.
  • Establish priorities, assign tasks, manage workflow
  • Work collaboratively with Yellow Wood team to ensure a high level of execution
  • Uphold a healthy and safe environment for all employees
Grounds Maintenance:
  • Responsible for the ongoing maintenance of a 90-acre privately owned residential property that includes landscaped areas, hardscaping, managed forest, trail systems and a naturalized pond
  • Understand and carry out the 10-year Forestry Plan (initiated in 2021); manage tree and forest health, including research, planting, pruning, and watering
  • Work with external consultants as needed including arborists, pond or wildlife experts, pesticide experts, etc.
  • Snow removal: operate snow removal equipment, shovel walkways, & maintain safe access to property and buildings in winter
Facilities Management:
  • Perform and/or coordinate user maintenance as required on irrigation systems, wells, septic systems, landscape systems, pool, hot tub, and troubleshoot issues that arise
  • Service & maintain landscaping equipment, including but not limited to hand tools and power equipment, mowers, tillers, tractors, etc.
  • Ensure proper disposal of garbage and debris
Infrastructure/Construction:
  • Plan and build new small-scale infrastructure elements, including but not limited to walkways, trails, woodsheds, fences, as required
  • Work with other maintenance crews and construction specialists as needed
Administration:
  • Upkeep of related documentation, budgets, & expenses
  • Maintain maintenance contacts, contracts, and service records
  • Coordinate with corporate finance team to ensure timely tracking and payment of invoices
Skills and Attributes:
  • 5+ years of groundskeeping or landscaping experience
  • Proven ability to lead a team
  • Team player with a positive attitude
  • Valid G-Class driver’s license or higher
  • Self-motivated with a high attention to detail and ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with supervisors, and coworkers
  • Knowledge of local plants, vegetation, and wildlife management
  • Experience working with and maintaining machinery
  • Physical strength and stamina, manual dexterity
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Certification to work on tree removal or other tree related tasks, nice to have
