Job Description

Operations SupervisorCalgary, Alberta Onsite- Permanent Full-TimeReference Number: CAN-AB-CAL-054-010425SUMMARYReporting to the Branch Supervisor, the Operations Supervisor is responsible for the daily operation of the warehouse and warehouse staff in the areas of order picking, shipping, load planning, receiving, warehouse optimization, and workplace safety.EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONSWarehouse OperationsMaintain an efficient and safe warehouse while meeting customer service levels and achieving inventory integrity.

  • Plan and oversee the flow of products, inbound and out, to ensure cost-effective movement while meeting customer expectations and company standards.
  • Ensure order picking and shipping levels are sufficient, and inventory discrepancies are at a minimum for customers to receive complete orders, in perfect condition, with on-time deliveries.
  • Ensure compliance with Alberta health and safety regulations and Corporate safety guidelines.
  • On an ongoing basis, work with the Branch Supervisor to review and improve operating procedures to achieve customer service levels, warehouse safety, cleanliness, and capacity issues.
  • Manage all operational equipment, maximizing efficiency and ensuring good fleet maintenance following company standards.
  • Responsible for maintenance, upkeep, and security of the warehouse.
  • Review invoices, orders, vacation schedules, and demand forecasts to estimate peak delivery periods and maintain appropriate staffing levels.
  • Investigate and resolve external and internal customer issues and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Communicate and implement company policies and standard operating procedures as required.
  • Work with purchasing staff to identify and correct inventory accuracy issues.
Staff ManagementSupervise a team of up to 5 warehouse employees.
  • Create and maintain a positive work environment and a team atmosphere.
  • Create work schedules, assign tasks to warehouse staff, and manage labour costs such as overtime.
  • Coordinate job training and safety training for applicable employees.
  • Apply the required discipline to bring performance or behaviours to expected levels.
  • Conduct yearly Employee Performance Reviews and mid-year Performance Discussions with applicable staff.
  • Address employee issues fairly and consistently.
RequirementsEXPERIENCE
  • Minimum three years’ experience supervising up to 5 warehouse employees, preferably in a distribution centre environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Building material experience an asset
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for excellent customer service, hiring, training, motivating, and developing staff, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations
  • Proven experience in coaching and training staff
  • Excellent organizational and team-building skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate with internal and external parties in a professional and courteous manner
  • Able to prioritize, problem-solve and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good computer skills with demonstrated proficiency with Word, Excel, and ERP systems
EDUCATION
  • High school graduation or GED
  • Post-secondary education is desirable.
