Job Description

Full job descriptionOur paving division has worked on many different types of projects around the city of Calgary from small patches to sub-divisions to interchanges to large commercial sites and consistently provides the highest quality work on schedule.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate the screed of the paver in order to achieve depth and grade of roadways, pathways, and parking lots.
  • Operates Top Con automatic grade controls setting angle and depth of screed.
  • Communicate with the asphalt paving operator on the flow of the paving machine.
  • Operates controls to regulate the flow of material and observes distribution of material over road surfaces to ensure uniform distribution.
  • Operates depth gauge, and verifies depth specifications of compacted asphalt.
  • Performs daily preventative maintenance inspections on the paver to proactively identify any potential mechanical issues and advises the Foreman.
  • Reports unsafe work, unsafe conditions, incidents, injuries, and near misses to the supervisor and participates in the investigative process.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Minimum 3 years experience operating a screed within the paving industry.
  • Familiarity with Top Con grade control automatics.
  • Experience in commercial and city streets.
  • Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) Certification.
  • Ability to identify and describe mechanical issues on the paver.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
  • Must be available to work long hours including evenings and weekends during the work season from April to December.
  • Must be able to work in extreme heat up to and could exceed 64 Celsius.
  • Must be able to work out of town when required with minimal notice.
  • Must have CSA-approved safety boots.
